What the fuck IS that?!?!?!
Fellow American Charlie White's (b. 1979) series of nine
photographs Understanding Joshua implants the character
of Joshua, a part-human and part-alien puppet created out
of sci-fi references, into scenes of American teenage suburban life.
Joshua is a self-loafing protagonist with a fragile ego manifested
in his physicality, seemingly unnoticed by his friends and family.
The photographs are not only playful but also offer an antitote
to the strongly female bias in both subjects and practitioner in
tableau photography. -
