Thanks for all the helpful info, for disclosure I rode the bike there and provided ultra heavy duty tubes (for the crf), but even so thought £100 was outrageous. We moved house so have been reluctantly trying the local garage but I'm not impressed at their service, or prices.

It's good to know tyres can be changed without a 'machine', although sure more swearing and sweating will be involved for the few times you change rubber. I won't be buying a compressor any time soon either, so maybe best left to a (reasonably priced) garage. Should really have tyre levers and a spare tube when I go out trail riding anyway...

After paying my local garage 100 English pounds (yes that's right) to fit new tyres, I want to do this myself in future. Any recommendations for kit that can handle road and dirt bike wheels/tyres?

We witnessed something similar a few months back with the rider having a head on collision then being airlifted to hospital. Got a letter through from the driver's insurance as made a statement to the police on scene, he was a quivering wreck as the biker was riding like a complete wet wipe.

I went with silver grey #7001 and feels spot on. Martyn also offers a non slip coating (sand mix) and went with the lightest version, without it the flooring would be lethal.

Ive seen lots of oil diagnosis at 1000 miles (not racing) and seems fine. The service intervals in the manual are the same as the 450R, and the L model is a lot tamer so personally no qualms increasing it slightly.

The service manual says change the oil every 600 miles but I'm doing it every 1000. This seems to be what most 450L owners are doing if they're not racing.

Lovely looking bike, nothing like a bank holiday to awaken the beast.

Had to get out before today's snooker coverage started. The lanes I've been riding for months seem to have turned from a dull brown to a lush green, and are busier too. Got my first (intentional) air today which was very satisfying, the 450L is so capable at speed it never gets into a sweat. Unlike me!

Really enjoying this one. Getting excited for the final now.
