I like the sound of this. If people are nail gunning these (with adhesive) then that makes me think I can nail mine, albeit in a more analogue fashion.

@Airhead great shout on the pilot holes for the picture rail, have seen people suggest this online and should make things easier.

Are they timber or MDF?

MDF jobbies from Wickes. I just know as soon as I drill into the wall the drill bit will inevitably move (when it hits brick) and my picture rail won't be straight. Any tips are very welcome.

Picture rails, talk to me. Can I put this up with adhesive and nails? Not keen to butcher my newly skimmed plaster to locate a wall plug. Drilling into brick never goes straight or is neat when I'm involved.

Yeah thought about doing it, but left it to the professionals in the end. I used a local guy but he might be persuaded to travel into London. Larger national firms I contacted were REME and PSC.

Thanks for all the tips on avoiding Farrow and Ball, went Dulux Heritage and thoroughly impressed even after one coat. Definitely the poshest paint I've used, just needs another coat then will put the picture rail up.

New EBC discs which aren't warped should definitely help things. Having said that the front wheel is still binding despite new master cylinder, lines, calipers (rebuilt twice with plenty grease) and seals. All out of ideas with this one, for now.

Lateral play or lack off looks good. My aftermarket SRAD rearsets probably have more side to side movement but shifting still feels bob on.

I have to agree straight bars on the F3 are banned. But then again it's your bike so do what you want!

I sometimes have thoughts about a road bike with risers instead of clip-ons, but the bike would need to be special. I could get on board with this.

I agree with everything already said about smaller capacity, and crucially lighter bikes. But to play devil's advocate make sure you find the bike exciting if it's for weekend kicks.

Thanks for the detailed yet clear reply, appreciate that when coming new to all this. Sounds like a decent pillar drill with modest milling capabilities would suit me better as an introduction to the basic principles.

How are you getting on with the mill, and figured out if you want to go TIG or oxy acetylene yet?

I've been thinking about buying a (made in England) pillar drill for a while, then typically discovered some can be used for milling with the right tooling. Do you think there's an argument for buying a dedicated mill, that can be used as a pillar drill as opposed to the other way around?

Feels like it's been a long journey to get to this stage, but can actually envision the living room being finished now. After removing all the ancient textured wallpaper, which probably lost us an energy efficiency star, it's amazing what smooth surfaces do to the feeling of a room. Also chuffed how the fireplace has turned out considering it was blocked up a few days ago. Now to decide on the colour...

I say tarty as I'm normally replacing 20 year plus oe brake lines as opposed to a couple of years old.
