Also, if anyone's got far too much time on their hands and a bit of skill at chopping potatoes, I'd be quite interested to see what it would look like with a black seatpost and chainset. The best I could do would be MS Paint and the thick brush, I'm not sure that's accurate.

thousands of fixed gear riders have only front brake?
Im with tom. If I were to make a freewheel bike with only 1 brake I would put a back on. I am not sure why I would build a bike like that but thats the way I would do it.
i think its unfortunate that everyone is calling tom retarded all he has said is that running only one brake is probably bad but if you are to do it the relativ merits of each mean he wold go for back.

I know close to nothing about gear ratio. Wwhat I do know is that I'm about to commute 12 miles one way to work, five days/week, with a track bike that have 170mm crank arms and a 50t/16t ratio.
Is this... okay?
They're all messing with you, swap out that 16 to a 14 otherwise you will never get to work in time.

Is it wrong that I'm tempted to try that...?
I think it looks like a comfortable enough set up for the track. However the ends of a carbon base bar or even alu are not menat to be clamped there. I think it is a sure fire way to rip your bar ends off and end up with no teeth. Especially running it on the track. Just my assumption however, perhaps its common and I just don't know.
