me - I'm in search of a team, either as a third or as making a pair then searching for a third. Playing NE/S 3-4 times a week so I'm looking for people who want to play a lot of polo. Anyone?
You'd be welcome to play in the team with Venn and myself, as I think you are local to us (NE), but I suspect you are probably looking for a higher level team, we are both relative beginners. Obviously I would need to talk to Venn first in any case, but we are looking for someone.

I reckon SE's should go to the offy and bring a crate or 4 down to Polo. It's only the other side of dog kennel hill....
+1 to city's idea about se's coming to drink with polo... Has happened a few times at west, non polo players are more than welcome to come sit drink/smoke in the sun whilst watching people crash!
Do it. At the tuesday polo session there is a perfect grass bank next to the court for chilling.

some fucking prick in a taxi having a go at me for going 20metres the wrong way down a one way street to my office at all of 2mph. GET A REAL JOB AND LESS RIDICULOUS THINGS WILL UPSET YOU, WANKER
You can't really complain about someone having a go at you. If you are going to break the rules (and I'm no saint) then at least be (wo)man enough to accept the consequences. It's like people complaining about police catching them rlj-ing. Anyway if it's 20m you could just walk it.

It wasn't hard to enforce, it just wasn't enforced at all. As no one person is in control, or enforcing the rules, it's kinda impossible.
And that's only solved by having a league body, who run the league, rather than being a casual democracy (which is the impression I get atm). Of course ideally for the sake of fairness it wouldn't be run by active players, but I guess it would be hard to find respected polo players who aren't playing in the league.

I also think that as much as people 'enjoyed' getting trounced last season, it's no fun for anyone to get slaughtered 18-0. Neither is it that fun to beat a newb team by such a margin.
Well, but should fun be a primary factor, is it an activity or a sport? It may well be demotivating to be 5 goals down and know you still have ages to play, but with limited scoring you have the situation where a 5-0 win in 2 minutes is the same as a 5-0 win in 15 minutes. I struggle to think of another goal based sport where you limit by goals not time.

He was in the most spinny gear possible and as soon as the lights went green he'd start pedaling harder than anyone i've ever seen, but only going at about 5mph. His legs were just a flailing blur, it made me actually laugh out loud quite hard to myself.
He must have been fucking knackered by the time he actually got to where he was going.I love doing that on my polo bike, I can beat all the commuters on the first 50m from the lights, but then they all pass me.

I can't say if there will be more teams than last year (I'll be surprised if we hit 20+), but at this stage it looks like teams will get a bit consolidated due to the player switching and I think every team ability should mix. Its still too early to bracket teams abilities into 2 leagues and I think everyone will benefit from coming together in just 1 league - the leagues a learning curve for competitive polo.
I agree, there are various different motivations (ability, number of games, geographical) for splitting the league, but 16 games shouldn't be too difficult to deal with if people are committed, or are prepared to pay a fine if they don't show.
As I mentioned earlier, as a beginner I'm happy to be trounced, but I'm actually more concerned for the top teams, the ones who represent all of us at the big tournaments. Surely you will benefit more from playing the top teams twice a season in the league, than playing people like me. I'd personally rather play in the second division until I'm good enough, if it gives you a better chance of winning the worlds.
Assuming we don't split just for the sake of ability, there might still be a need to split if we have more than 20 teams, maybe not this season, but probably in future leagues. For the sake of fairness it might be worth defining rules around this for the future, saying that after x number of entries the league will be split. Then say if the split it set at 20 teams, you can define rules for how it is split, for example the top 10 teams get an automatic right to play in the top division the next year, if they choose to. I don't really care what the rules are, as long as it's defined, then no-one can complain the next year, and there is motivation to finish in the top x places each year.
Also, I think that should be defined before the entries, as otherwise people will be motivated by their own desire to play in the top league, rather than what is best for the league as a whole.
I want to change the formats a little. I think 3 games is a little excessive, I'd rather play a 30 min game, or two games of 15 mins, that don't have a goal limit. I want to see how far the scores can range. Someone can trounce someone else and win 25-0, but two equally matched teams could only go 0-0 in that time. I'd also like to allow draws.
I'd also like to see proper penalties for no-shows to a fixture, you would have two weeks to play, and if you don't manage that, then, the team that didn't show loses their game 5-0 (for example).
I'd rather a financial penalty instead of a 5-0 loss as teams in the middle to lower half of the league ranking probably won't care about another -5 GD. If they expected to be fined actual money (Beers for the other team?) then it would be more incentive to get the games done.
I like the idea of time limited not goal limited games, after all if a team is 25 goals better over 30 minutes, then it's only fair that's represented in the results.
That does mean though that a 5-0 penalty isn't enough, as in some cases it would be much better to forfeit than to play. At the same time a financial penalty isn't enough either, as you could have the theoretical situation where one team pays another team not to turn up, so that their rivals can't get any points. So I think it needs to be some combination of a financial penalty, a loss of GD or points, and a gain of points for the team that turns up.
Also if you bring financial penalties into it, you are going to have to expect people to argue about who did and didn't turn up, and excuses why they didn't, and not pay up. So you are going to have to set rules for that possibility, for example suspend the team until they have paid up.

You can always take the scottish football league as an example, start with one league, then split it in half, halfway through.
Otherwise, just have a swiss rounds pre-league quali tourney, with starting positions based on last years league, and summer tournement results.
Personally i'm happy either way. I don't mind getting spanked by the big teams on a regular basis, but i also don't mind having to play a few seasons in the lower league to earn the right to play the big teams.

Ha, maybe then Aidan? Sorry Felix. ;)
Categorically no room for any more stuff Dr. V. Sorry. I'm having a new shed built to accommodate this one and the tourer I'm buying tomorrow. Will be dumped if I bring home any more stuff, sorry.
I've got plenty of space for spare polo bikes, I have a secure bike parking for about 70 bikes in my block, and only about 20 are being used. The only problem is getting them to beginner sessions from Bethnal Green.

Not much no, he only just started again.
