I've started watching too. Enjoying it a lot. I found the official website (I think) which goes into a lot of detail about what's going on, the historical context, and the real stories that this is based on

Determinism and free-will are different things. I don't know enough to talk about free-will, but (in my humble opinion) I think it's fairly safe to say we live in a non-deterministic universe:
True randomness exists, in radioactive decay, but also due to Heisenberg's uncertainty principle (you can't know a particle's position and momentum with 100% accuracy). Couple that with the Butterfly Effect, and you've got yourself a universe with an unknowable future.

You were asking about using a Pi to play music, and attaching buttons to control the playback?
Definitely doable, and very much in the Raspberry Pi's wheelhouse.
You could install
mplayer, which is a CLI MP3 player (amongst other things) and it can be configured to accept commands via a named pipe: https://askubuntu.com/questions/159762/how-to-use-media-buttons-for-mplayerThe next step is to connect buttons to the GPIO headers, monitor the pins for changes using a small python script, and send commands to the named pipe when button presses are detected. Perhaps a bit like this: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/59985317/monitor-two-gpio-pins-on-pi

I really like the idea of favourited or "starred" threads. I think it would be really useful in the app too. I suspect people would use it to reduce notifications from the mobile app without having to unsubscribe from a bunch of threads. I know I would!
My only reservation is that I think that functionality should live on the server side, but that would be an issue: it would be fairly straight forward to implement it on the server side, but the web front end would also need to be upgraded, and that's basically a no-go afaiu. (Any thoughts @Velocio ?)
If you can getting anything working, I'm keen to get it integrated though.

So, this app uses the Flutter framework - I've just been looking into it, and the framework developers explicitly state that supporting Wear OS is not one of the design goals. That said, there has been community effort to get flutter apps running on watches.
So I'd guess it might be possible to re-purpose the codebase, but it might be a bit of struggle, and it might be brittle.
The other option is to build a new native app from scratch. Is that what you imagined doing?
Re editing: still not possible in the app - still top of my to-do list 😬

Tell the PI you're doing an experiment and you want him to find out as much as he can about you
