First quarter i.e January to March?
The weather is likely to be hideous. Cold or wet or cold and wet for the most part. If you're lucky it might even snow ;) It'd also be windy as F**k. Glen Coe is pretty exposed and you're up quite high on some of those roads beside Loch Ness.
Elevation wise past Glasgow up through Glen Coe it's not that bad. Mainly long gradual hills with one particularly steeper one in the middle of Coe.
Fort William to Fort Augustus again not too scary hill wise. Worst probably leaving Spean Bridge up to the Commando memorial.
Fort Augustus to Inverness round the 'back' of the loch I think is pretty hilly, but it's been a very long time since I've been up those roads.
I should hasten to add that I've not cycled most of these roads but I'm from Fort William and lived (and drove) around the area for many many years. For my tuppence worth, i'd probably wait till either May or the middle of August as a time for being in Scotland camping/biking. Simply because the weather has a much better chance of being 'fair' and the midge's won't be out in full force. If you are out at that time of year tho I'd also suggest packing the following
Midge head net ---> http://www.midgie.net/
It's cheap and you look silly but if you need to be stationary for any length of time in the open and it's not windy, its a fiver well spent.
midge death stuff ---> http://www.lifesystems.co.uk/psec/insect_repellents/50plus_insect_repellent.htm
there used to be a gel version of this but I don't think they do it any more sadly. I've spent alot of time climbing in the area and these things were invaluable.
I'd pack a tent too. A good one. Something that will keep the weather out and not screw up when you're in the middle of nowhere. As a suggestion, something from Terra Nova/wild Country (they're the same company). Reason being that they're a great reliable brand (IMO) and their tents all have taped seams. -

Genius thread.
Wonder what Tesla will have to say about it? Also wonder how many more motor manufacturers will be willing to loan him something after this?
Maybe we should get the Greek tourist board on board...
"From there it was on to Greece, alongside hundreds of young couples flocking to get married there thanks to Mamma Mia.
I warn you, nearlyweds - it may be sunny, but the magic soon wears off: once you've seen the statues and ruined amphitheatres, you realise the rest of the country is a total and utter dump. National dish? Olives and warm lager. Primary export? Fat, hairy women. No wonder blokes in Ancient Greece preferred each other... "

Hi-Res = biggest file image I can make?Jonny - pictures hosted on photobucket (or similar free picture hosting site) the click the wee mountain image button above the message (insert image) and paste the URL that the image hosting site shows for the picture.
You might have to resize the image too. I'd do that on the hosting site. -

Hearing 'you know' at the start of a sentience, more often followed with 'know what I mean' at the end. And 'like' everyewhere
I don't know, as you've not told me yet.
I probably don't know what you mean but am either too uninterested to ask for further information or that I'll regret asking. It's like, you know like soooooo annoying and everything. know what I mean?

The cops were doing something similar at Trafalgar Sq a year or two ago. They had a couple of HGV's parked up there and were inviting cyclists into the cab and stuff to get a feel for how little the driver can see.
They were also showing off some of the new door mirrors that look directly down to what may be right beside the cab. Only useful if they use them of course.
It was a bit of an eye opener. Especially how much blind spot there is in front, given the height they sit at.

I'm liking what I've got with them at the minute, as I'm on their adsl2 trial so have 15-16meg down, 1 meg up and no caps (that I've noticed) for the same price as the normal broadband.
Admittedly I did look at Be for the better speeds but this was before I got on the trial so haven't bothered to move since then. -
zen. expensive but worth it for the lack of downtime or hassle and real people to talk to if you need any tech support.
avoid plusNet like the plague. biggest bunch of cuntz ever.
I've been with plusnet for the last 5 years. Never had a problem with them. The thing I like about them is the fact that all the engineers, hardware and support are all physically in the same place so stuff usually gets resolved fairly quickly.
This is worth a look too.

^^^^^^ I'd wondered about that with folks driving and using a phone.
What is it that counts as admissible evidence?Or has anyone some other method of getting the message "Get off the phone before you kill someone" across. Block them in? Sit in front of them and not let them drive off? actually that last one might escalate the incident into a hit and run...:(

Not at all sure how much they'll charge you for a tent on a site. Probably about a fiver+ a night or thereabouts during the 'summer season'.

Midges tend to appear from around May till August/September time.
Think Mozzie but the size of a fruit fly if not a bit smaller and appearing in numbers.
And yes they bite. Luckily they're crap in a breeze and are usually worse at dawn and dusk.

Theres a bit more about the weather trends.
In Scotland at least...
Most places I think won't bother about wild camping as long as you're out of the way, tidy up after yourself and don't cause any trouble. Always pays to keep an eye out, sometimes there are no camping signs some places, usually the more touristy type spots.
I've got no idea how much you'd want to take. Depends on how 'minimal' you're planning to go.
