I had a look on strava. You're right - very me. Exactly the kind of thing I'd like to replace some of my road rides with.
My assumption is that anything truly technical is going to be fucking awful on the drops or tops. But like you say, would be hard to keep up with anyone on a cross or gravel bike on a mtb

@amey Bit late to the party but how come mtb and not a gravel bike?
I have been weighing up this decision for a while...

Oh... Sad times. Is this a serious thing or are you spitballing?
There are plenty of beautiful places within commute distance of Edinburgh. South, places like Berwick on the border and north up the coast to Dundee. It's all stunning and accessible.
I'd love to do the same but I think too many elderly parents and family in/around London for it to be feasible.

If you want cheap and cheap to insure, buy a skoda fabia. I think they're insurance group 1 or 2 and are basically a cheap Polo. Easy to drive, park in London and not too bad on motorways.
We loved ours and only replaced because we were doing more and more long journeys/UK holidays (and because I am a wanker).
We got our insurance down to about 550 a year (eb 3 years and me new driver).Am also really enjoying our 118i now though and don't feel like it's too much car for me as a new-ish driver. I think the insurance is something like 800 a year and it cost just under 10k for a 2015 plate with 30k miles on it. Bought part cash, part small bank loan (better than ridiculous finance deals) so repayments are low and it doesn't cost us much to run.
If you buy a 2011-2013 one with less than 50k miles you're looking at 6-7k (fag packet estimate). I looked at golfs but they're a bit dull and pretty much the same money as a BMW so I bought the car I liked instead.

I've found that they do loosen themselves periodically. Probably once a year (finger in wind) - regardless of loctite or mega torque.
I broke a spring whilst out on Sunday (fun ride home). I've not bought cleats for ages - no where seems to stock the older bare metal style zero cleats.
Do I need to go with the awful yellow ones now?
Has anyone dabbled with the cheaper off brand ones you can get on Amazon or eBay? -

Don't suppose anyone else has owned an f21 BMW and experienced juddering in the steering (can also be felt through the car) at 75mph+ ?
Took it to the local garage after driving back from Norfolk last week and they thought it might be the front suspension arms but weren't 100% so they just made sure it was safe and rebalanced the wheels. It's helped a little but not much.
In Wales for the next couple of weeks but would like to take it to a decent BMW garage in London (preferably south) when I get back to get them to chase the problem down. Any recommendations?
