My bike was parked briefly on the corner of slains briefly too. Saw another guy riding a white / black fade single speed with a really slack chain and a spoon saddle outside alpine bikes and nipping down schoolhill. The daccordi is fucking sick, has the guy got new bars for it?
The reason I was there is because friday is lunch from Beautiful Mountain day!

One thing I would strongly advise if you're going to camp is to not skimp on the sleeping mat. At the very least a Thermarest Trail-lite is an essential. Foam and neoprene make for very poor sleeping surfaces and therefore a very poor nights rest. I've spent more mornings gimping around with a stiff/sore back than I care to remember. Sure they only need to go from head to arse, but are so much better when they go head to toe and the minimal extra weight is well worth the cost.
I've got both, the thermarest / vango equivalent, is great if you've got the room.
Gear choice, is very dependant on how light / fast you want to travel. Personally I love travelling with as little as possible. My camera gear has dictated this in the past. Spd's are amazing though when the road gets steep imo.

Campsites are between £8 - £12 a night along the west coast. Put your money into a tiny tent (£100 +) coleman do a great little one - http://www.coleman.com/coleman/colemancom/detail.asp?product_id=2000000451&categoryid=11070&brand= , decent tiny sleeping bag (£50). Roll mats don't need to be as thick, wide or as long as the ones you get in climbing shops. You really just need them to be long enough to go from your head to your arse, so cut down a bought one or get some thin neoprene foam . Paniers are good but a small (30- 40l) pack is totally managable. Bar ends and spd's are the other things I would deffo get for your bike. A change of shoes at the end of the day, even if it's just into some thin van's / plimsoles is amazing. As far as spares go take less tubes, some patches and kevlar tyre.
Me and my mate did some of your route this summer, I don't think I would go round loch ness though, its a bit boring, but it is easy going.

Edinburgh Bikes say they've got these in stock http://www.edinburghbicycle.com/ebwPNLqrymode.a4p?f%5FProductID=9495&f%5FSupersetQRY=Khubs&f%5FSortOrderID=%2D1&f%5Fbct=
But you'll probs have to go in and order them as they'll be in their depot. On the plus side they'll build them too but they're not cheap.

Check tyre beading isn't kinked if you have a wire bead. This may mean that the tyre isn't seated on the rim properly, which may not be apparent until the tube is fully inflated at which point the tube escapes from the tyre and works it's way out until BANG!
I got through two tubes on a new* tyre because of this.*unused but apparently shoddily stored
I've had this happen on a BMX before. You start hearing a funny creaking and then boom. It was just a larger than average bead on the tyre and on a rim with a smallish seat that caused it. I just cleaned tyre and rim up with meths and they were fine.

I went to Art school too. Sound pm me when you've got your wheel sorted. This is what me and my mate did this summer http://www.londonfgss.com/thread28330.html

I normally try and get a run or 2 in a week (20-40 miles). If anyone fancies this give me a shout, I normally go out to westhill or banchory via some of the back roads. There's about 4-5 guy's that bmx / skate that ride fixed so doing something down transitions a great idea. I've been meaning to turn up to these thursday rides but have been to busy or its been raining.
I've got a Black BJ with drops FFR

The first vid was filmed and edited by my mate dave sowerby (his flatmate), this was made by a skater, the same guy who produced the doves video with Danny in it.
This video's going to be split into 2-3 parts when its shown on telly. I agree though, the music's rubbish and slow-mo stuffs annoying. Plus its wet at the start and in the next scene its dry. Seemingly it was shot with some megabucks RED camera (£150k), so thats why it all looks nice. He's seemingly doing an add for VW in lisbon now.

Shite!
Done form Inverness to the west coast and back just with backpacks. I've written it up in this post http://www.londonfgss.com/thread28330.html . 65 miles+ is probs fine on such flat roads. We did 180 miles in 4 days. We thought about doing the same route as you before we did our Highland tour. Anyway good luck!
