i’m changing one of my tourers to flat bar and was thinking of trying these, possibly fake(?) shimano tx30 friction shifters on ebay for £12 mated to a 7spd alivio/acera short rear mech chain and cassette. because it is cheap and i don’t need range/finesses. if anyone can help with any of this, great, yes please. i so far have a front mech. i’m also looking for an OS flat bar of decent width and lock on grips. edit, i have since decided to explore 8spd as well have found a groovy lh friction thumbie in a box and have been advised alivio is a significant step up from acera.
for partial swap i have a 9spd beater brifter set up, and a nice xt mech. and some decent but unfashionable prolite bars.
i am not 100% i’m going ahead with this so just to warn you

@rakesmith I am sorry ihaven’t bothered to read all the last few pages but what is fascism is one of the questions as a historian i have been interested in for a long time. as i understand it fascism is PRIMARILY the use of the state and its resources for the benefit of corporations connected to that state conceived of within a competive capitalist global arena. this is how it is originally expressed by fascism’s founding thinkers and arguably is very close to what we have today. things like the state paying compensation to private entities for the financial damages incurred by the abolition of slavery; bank bailouts; and state institutions servicing resources the use of which private companies then sell on (like rail systems, and training doctors who have private clinics) are all examples. the consequences are ghastly as we all know

i'm hearing- from two well placed sources- that developing a vaccine is proving extremely difficult and some scientists think one might not be possible after initial optimism.
in other news i’m coming down with it - or what i assume is it - again. feel rough. hate the reports of permanent lung damage.
edit aka sod all or very limited immunity, no vaccine; death toll going down actually disguises full enormity of our fucked situation -

@sacredhart The Bizango is fantastic, really capable geo and well specced but they are so often on gunmtree practically new I would not buy a new one from Halfords. The only two problems are shit cranks and heavy forks. If you bought a second hand one you could easily change those things. But don’t be scared of them because they are cheap etc they are good
the capital ring is quite clear, but obviously still illegal, around 5am
