Alright - I've had and recovered a confirmed H1N1 strain of flu according to my GP (I have to get checked out for stuff like this due to previous lung trauma) and it was possibly as mild as flu gets - 48 hours of a mild fever, achy joints and vague fatigue. I wasn’t bedridden, appetite was fine, and barely any coughing or sneezing. I basically spent 2 days with my ass on the couch playing Halo.

Upsides – a day off work while being healthy as they don’t want me infecting my colleagues, a full (unused) course of Tamiflu that I can flog/use if needed later, and possible immunity/resistance to any forthcoming, possibly more virulent strains.

Downside – I’m still a bit knackered to ride.

Ta for that - 165 it is... now do I just go for those Stronglights or splash out on Suginos...

Was thinking about this the other day - I hate riding without shades but I'd imagine clear lenses would make you look like a knob at night - any good middle ground?

Straps/foot retention of some form are pretty vital IMO even if you ride with brakes. I knocked off my replacement pair a few days ago after a shoddy job putting them on (no tools at work) finally found all the bolts that pinged off but I've been riding fixed without them for a week now and it's just not right - braking or skidding's just treacherous

I ride 170s at the moment - toeclips keep hitting the floor so Im tempted my 165s - any benefits of a shorter crank?

Ok, dead-ish threah but essentially the only thing keeping me from considering SPDs is my documented medical need to wear Converse 90% of my waking hours.

Hmm, I've been ok with Vista for a year or so, yeah it needs a little modifying to behave but nothing too problematic.

Loving 7 though - been having a good mess about on the old laptop, only complaint is a complete lack of sound drivers from HP.

Having gone through more tyres then i can afford this year, i'd offer this advice; use puncture proof tyres, on crazy james' recommendation I've been using Vittoria Randonneur's with the last 3 months & they seem to work well, even once your down to the red layer.
Remove & rotate your wheel often, thus extending the range of skid patches.
Watch where your skidding, some surfaces will cut up tyres quicker, obvious i know but important to note, easy to get carried away.

Noted, I'm riding Luganos at the mo so decided I can just tear their cheap asses up - rotating did cross my mind as well as did swapping front and back tires...

Plus it's all about skidding on rain-fresh roads...
