Sorry to have dashed off before final had finished and not saying goodbye to everyone, but had to grab the 8pm MegaBus. But was great seeing you all.
Feeling pretty beat today. With the talent at Euro Bench, there were some pretty tough games this weekend. But all was fun.
Congrats to Polo’s team for taking the win and Will’s for being runners up - the French can’t stop winning!
Thanks to HBomb, the ref’s and usual Bristol locals who all helped to make tournament happen.
Props to our captain Rupert. He really worked hard to build a united team that played well together, with every player getting involved in each game and overall team strategy. It felt like a true Bench team. I was proud to be a Steeler.
One of my highlights of the weekend was hearing the bench back board slam to the ground and seeing a full line change seamlessly.
My main feedback on format was there were perhaps 1 too many teams and game times were too short to play with a squad of 8 players. But I know time was tight due to the Sports Centre closing times.
Really like the 10 second count down after resets.
All in all, great weekend. Look forward to the next Bench tournament.

Highly recommend the Paul Duplex lever.
The Company owners own words about that lever:
Turns out there are lots of adaptive cyclists that it has been a major help to as well. Once we built a few though I knew it was a winner. One of my favourite parts.

Cosmic???
Thanks guys. If before the qualies, it had been decided by majority favour from UK scene to give us a euro spot knowing our position, we probably would have accepted it. But only if it was of majority consensus. We never supported the idea of getting preferred treatment and taking a spot away from any team, who on paper could earn it themselves by playing in the qualies. Going to the Euros is a great experience, I wouldn’t want to take that away from any team/player.
Cosmic genuinely wanted to play in the UK Champs and of course the Euros. Why wouldn’t we...we’ve been to every single one since both tournaments began and faired pretty well each time. Besides that, socially, they’re also the most fun.
But rather than argue our personal situation, we respected the UK qualies process and chose to accept the fact we couldn’t play to earn our spot like all other UK teams.
TBH I’d still jump at the chance to play in the Euro’s and I’d like nothing more than to have Cosmic rep for the UK. But with the tournament less than 3 weeks away, going as Cosmic is just not possible now...and TBH, for me, that’s pretty hard to swallow.
It’s unfortunate that the UK teams who initially earned these Euro spots can’t make it now, but shit happens. So on the basis of the allocation rules made before the qualies, IMO it’s only fair and right that the remaining available spots get passed down to the next team in line. If no team from the rankings can take, then we, as the UK scene, should send a mix team in order to ensure our original Euros allocation is used. It would be a waste otherwise.
I think those involved in organising this years qualies did the best they could based on the circumstances. The fact that the Euros was announced so late this year made things hard, as time was against us.
IMO next year, I would like to see the UK Champs held earlier in the year, with the 2 top placed teams winning auto spots for Euros. Then a little bit closer to the expected Euros date, a single day qualies event is arranged to dish out the rest of the potential Euro spots.
This gives most teams opportunities to attend 2 tournaments on different dates and be in fair runnings for Euro qualification.
Both events need to be confirmed in the diary well in advance, with those dates (or there about) also becoming set as standard for the years ahead.
It’s important to get things organised in order to ensure we can all fit polo in around other things and make sure we keep progressing the game because I still don’t see the next generation coming up behind us.
For all those UK teams which do end up going to the Euros this year, good luck, I’ll be rooting for you!
