Hi,
I'm building up an old carlton (my first fixed and my first build). It has an old style seat post where the post and the clamp that locks it onto the seat are separate.
I was hoping to get a new-style adjustable one - ideally fluted or aero like these. The problem is its 25.4mm.
The question is should I:
- keep looking for fluted/aero in 25.4mm;
- buy a new plain adjustable seatpost b/c it will be lighter than my current setup;
- keep the current setup; or
- is there some clever way of changing the seattube size?
Also its a bugget build so I dont want to spend the earth.
Any advice very welcome.

....also hebdy how much was your respray all in? - it looks sweet btwMy new bike to replace the battered raleigh (thieving cnuts couldn't take it so decided to batter the frame about).

Frame is a Holdsworth 1982 Special 531 awesomeness. Ebay for £25 pound in fairly rough condition. Puppy killed with no regrets....
Miche Cranks and BB
Condor hubs on cxp33's
Ofmega headset
Rolls saddle.
Very pleased with the Armourtex paintjob and generally how it has come out, after months of saving and deliberating.... Now waiting on some stickers from h lloyd and to drill the front fork so i can fit a decent brake, as the curent fork only accepts older nut fittings.And did you have to prep it at all?

I'd go with tbcdurley.
I had a stuck stem and got it even more stuck. In the end I had to saw it out.
Also, if the stem is aluminium and the forks are steel (as in my case) then it maybe really hard to fix yourself. Alu expands more than steel when it corrodes - which makes it more stuck.

Hey,
Wondering if anyone can help me.
I have an old bottom bracket. Got one side out but can't get the other one out.
Does anyone have a tool that will fit it that I can borrow/buy next weekend?
I've tried using a spanner but its not deep enough to cover both halves. I've already chipped a bit off so am wary of trying any more. The only other thing I can think is a vice (but i dont have one).
I've spoken to a few bike shops, but I'm really strapped for cash and don't want to have to pay the £15 (possible twice if/when I put it back in).
Any help would be much appreciated.
ps although I'm short on funds I can spare a few beers for anyone with a tool.
