Was looking for a small roadbike for my gf, this came through the ebay email but was too late to chance my arm. I'll be interested to see how this pans out as I'm certain it's a price error, but did anyone snag one of these?

If you're feeling brave, try http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271469723554
A penny more, and apparently in Bournemouth not Manchester. Like yours, a seller with no track history, and one other item (a book) for sale.
I'm struggling to see what the scam is (apart from simply take the money and don't supply), but it can't be a genuine sale for £35 posted.

Couldn't spot the listing you mentioned, but there's no such thing as 2x8 or 3x8 Ergos - all the L/H ones micro-index, so there's a dozen or more clicks on the ratchet and they'll shift double or triple quite happily.
When you say your current shifters are worn out though, have you thought about rebuilding them? Pretty sure the indexing springs are still available - and cheap.

Thanks, I could use a 9 speed cassette but I have 8 speed jockeys and chainring if rather use an 8 speed chain hence need the extra spacing . I know it will probably work with a 9 speed chain but I wanted to keep it all consistent
Pretty sure the internal width of 8 and 9 speed chains is the same - it's the external width that differs. Certainly I've had no problem using a 9 speed chain on an otherwise 8-speed bike.

Looks an awful lot like a 953 badge. Be quick finishes at 19:29:30 and less than £70 at the minute.
lug-less 953 BJ, never seen such a thing!
Pretty sure it's an 853 badge - green outer, yellow lettering, round top, pointed bottom.
Now at £283 with 20 mins to go, so not going to be hugely cheap. I'm a bit wary of it as well: frame, forks, chainset, BB and front mech only; 3 day auction; seller with low feedback and no previous sales.
Oh well ...

I have seen other folks on these forums from the States/California. Also, this seems to be a pretty big stash of all the bikes LFGSS is interested in. Was gonna go have a peak and if someone really wanted something. I would be willing to post it for them. Just trying to help out the community and find the rare gems.
I thought that the "Ebay/CL finds" was where to post these situations. Maybe I misunderstood.
I have been reading on these forums for a while now. think its a great community, and wanted to try to contribute.
Sorry if this is not the case. Guess ill look for other FG forums in my area.
Thanks
Don't flounce ...
Given it's a largely UK, largely London forum though, might be worth putting some context round what you post. The Finds thread is (AIUI) to pick out things other forumengers might be interested in and have a realistic chance of buying.
Random garage sale in the Bay area - I'm not going to bother looking.
Random garage sale in the Bay area, with someone local who might be prepared to go and have a look, tell me if something's worth buying, and post it on to me - I'm a lot more interested, and I'll buy that man a beer ...

I'm not quite sure what the problems you're facing are, and how replacement of the rear triangle might cure them.
If it's rear dropout spacing, brute force to bend out the stays is the approved method of adjustment - cold setting, if you don't want to frighten folk off ... Sheldon Brown has a useful discussion of issues and methods, and also talks about how to ensure the dropout faces are parallel afterwards.
You also mentioned filing the dropouts - is this because it is (say) a 9mm dropout and a 10mm axle? I wouldn't hesitate - and it seems to me a bit less brutal than ripping the poor thing apart only to rebuild half of it.
Obviously having a play with brazing seems as much of a motivator as simply getting the bike running again, but TBH I'd be more inclined to get some tubing and lugs from Ceeway (and probably a metric fuck-ton of their practice lugs and tubes as well).

You're probably right that £86 vs £126 is pretty reasonable, it's just that sadly I think I'm more at the sixteen quid end of the market ...
Good luck with the ebay sale (#171304784078 if anyone else is interested).

Town bike is probably closer to the mark than pub bike but yeah, I should probably embrace wider rims and fatter tyres.
Evans actually seem about the cheapest for A719s on a superficial search (£41 and something, still more than I want to pay) - Sputniks and 40 spokes just seem like complete overkill given my main commuter has a 28h Open Pro rear.
What I really want, I guess, is someone to reveal the past existence of special-order 40h Open SUPs, and sell me an NOS pair for forty quid.
-
40h rims - anyone got ideas for something a bit lighter than a Sputnik?
I've just acquired a 40h Sturmey 3speed dynohub, which has beater/pub bike written all over it, but I'd quite like to build it into a reasonably narrow road rim. Something like an Open Pro or a Chrina or an Evolution would fit the bill nicely, but it's looking like my choices are likely to be Velocity (don't like the deepish profile) or Sputnik (don't like the weight and would prefer narrower).
700c, box section, double eyeletted, clincher and reasonably modern would be great - I'm sure I'd have my choice of 60s sprint rims from the Bay - and ideally closer to 20 quid than to 50.
(Actually - Mavic A719 could be plausible, if it turns up cheaper than fifty quid.)

No offers is fair enough, your privilege etc etc, and your price is certainly competitive with the ebay pricing for new Phil BBs (and well below, when you factor in postage from the US for most of them).
But, looking at pricing for used items, the going rate for a stainless BB with cups and tool seems to be closer to £40 (the one that went for sixteen quid is a clear outlier) - the only one that's gone for more than £45 was a Ti unit, and even that only hit £65.
(I'm not just being a complete arse - this would be right for a build I'm contemplating, but not at your current price I'm afraid.)

Pics really won't add an awful lot to your imagination - they're anonymous hubs, on perfectly adequate rims, and in the same condition they came out of the factory ... 32 spoke, machined sidewalls etc etc - http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/images/products/medium/23242B32.jpg
(Sorry, I'm being dead lazy, but they're in a box behind a load of other stuff in the cellar. I can fish them out if you really want me to.)
-
How about a staggeringly unexciting pair of no-name hubs built onto Rigida Flyer rims (black; stainless spokes)? Fairly obviously they'll take an 8/9/10 speed cassette, and they've never even seen a tyre let alone a brake block because they were bought in a fit of enthusiasm for a project that never happened. Fifty quid would keep me more than happy - and they're available now ...
(Henry's Aksiums are probably nicer though.)

It's also worth remembering that there's a big difference between what a driver can see if he looks in his mirror carefully, and what he will see if he gives it a casual glance because he's also looking at the road ahead and checking five other mirrors.
I went to one of the Exchanging Places events, and sat in the cab, and looked carefully in the nearside mirror as a six foot copper in hivis pushed my bike up the side of the truck.
Sure, I could see him, but he didn't exactly stand out, and I wouldn't have guaranteed to be able to pick him out against the visual clutter of a road while I was also paying attention in front of me and to the other side. Clearly there's a reason I don't have an LGV licence ...

The dustcap acts as a lateral spacer - may be worth just replacing this to see if it removes the play. Various suggested suppliers in http://www.lfgss.com/thread86161.html - not checked the links though.
[Edit] The supplier I linked to in that thread isn't in business any more. "Axle cap" seems to be the magic formula to find them online - plenty of suppliers claiming stock in the US. They're light enough that you might not get robbed on postage.

Well, every day's a school day - I never knew how much apparent movement of the tension bolt there could be in a new saddle, 'cos I'm too tight to buy anything other than s/h and had assumed that any exposed thread was down to (over)tightening. Never assume ... mutter mutter. Clearly a couple of my saddles are less worn than I thought they were.
(Ta for the learning, and glad the sale went well.)

than to
Halfords used to (claim to) be able to source almost anything else for you if you were buying using a cyclescheme voucher, and some other places will accept Halfords own vouchers. But if it has to be a Boardman, reviews say they're pretty good.
(Don't know if that's helpful in convincing you to feel better about the situation.)
