Apparently the sea temp down here was 8c the other day !!! Dont believe that, but it may be more like 10c. I went in again yesterday and it seemed even colder....
Dooks - Hows the wetsuit ? Have you tried it out yet ?
I wonder what temp those lakes are that i posted about earlier... ? Wondering whether to go somewhere this bank holiday coming for a swim..... Anyone else ?

Went in the sea off Praa sands (west cornwall) yesteday. No wetsuit, just cosy and cap. It took a while to get in the first time, but once i was in it was lovely ! I reckon around 12 or 13c ??? Only stayed in for about 10 minutes each time.Hope to go in again a few times this week..... make the most of it ! :)

i know you should really try first but... there's only a handfull of sizes and i'm pretty sure which one i'm in. i can always return it if it doesn't fit anyway.
Where are the details of the wetsuit ? What mm is it ? The shoulders are coated, not so flexible ?

just got back from masters. slightly shambolic and sparsely populated session. shoulders stiff after saturday and i was lacking verve. fly set didn't help.
warmup, something sprints then:
16x25
8x50
4x100
1x200all swum full stroke fly was enough to knock the fight out of me.
as the coach wasn't there we reverted to doing medley drill to break the monotony of the yet more fly he had down for us.
won the final freestyle sprints at the end of the evening though which was cool. i'm not far off going up another lane i don't think. another couple of months and i might chance my arm in the "top lanes" for a session.
Won the sprints ?! I think the lacking of verve was in your head !??
I swum Tuesday and Thursday as normal this week and have definitely been more fatigued, by half way through my session.
Time for a change this weekend ! -

yes, I read the t&c. But I just wondered why they have made them compulsory ? What is the reason ?
Maybe, it gives an unfair advantage to some elite ? The time you spend trying to get out of the damn things, must give you a minute or so on your bike !
Or could be a temperature related thing ? What temp is the thames in summer ?

I had 3 in my lane, one 14 year old boy, who lapped me about 20 x and a really elderly lady who was swimming with no goggles and her eyes closed ! She kept swimming on the wrong side and one time she caught me with her nails, i just remember a sharp pain on my left but carried on, luckily she left after 50 laps, then it was me and the kid doing 5k, which was nice as he pushed me !
When finished later on, noticed a 3 inch nail scratch under my right arm !! Pics to prove ??!! :)
We should all hook up in the summer months for a cycle, swim and beer picnic !

Hey ! Not a happy Bunny ! I basically believe I did it in 1 hour 34 mins, but someone ( yes you the person im talking about !) must have missed counted and I had an extra 10 or so.
I got to 108and he told me then i started counting, so i counted 20, then checked with him and should have been on 128 and he said no its 122 !!
Anyway, I feel like i did an extra 10 or so laps. Otherwise it was good, not really too tired, just my lower back was aching past 130 ish....
off out for more booze and possible argument now ! :(

At the moment I spend about £70 a month all on swimming ! I am Stoopid - I keep paying for each session ( non member) . I should have got a swim London card ages ago as its £26 a month and covers 40 pools !
I too am getting bored and seem to be plateauing/maintaining fitness, so after this weekend I am joining my local Masters swim club. Time to be pushed again !
Plus cycling = free
Core work at home = free
Should start doing press ups and tricep dips at home again all free ! -

ok so. advice needed here. I might have accidently agreed to take part in the Virgin London triathlon. I will be doing the 1500 metre swim. in the thames. I was last in a pool 4 years ago. have only ever been in the pool when I was younger and that was always mucking about not actually swimming.
my question? is it realistic that I can be train myself up to do 1500m in time (31st July) without: any prior experience of proper swimming, no formal lessons (either prior or planned), any good swimming style (tend to use arms to pull and no good at using legs to push), very little time to actually get to the pool between now and then (once maybe twice a week)
Just looked, current lake temp 16.1c Silly opening times for swimming ! 6am to 8.30am or 5.30pm to 8.30pm ! Thats no good for me....
