I'll give it a go.
The rest parts - is that between each set? i.e. 250m then 20 secs rest, 250m then 20 secs rest, or is it just 20 secs after doing 250m twice?
Although I'm likely to say fuck it, and just take 5 minutes.
yes 20 sec after 1 250m, then another 250m then 20 secs etc.
I found the 250's hard but the sprints easier, closer rest periods ! :)

It was Epsom (edsc). The only problem is the other 2 sessions are at 9-10pm, so all three sessions are 1 hour each. I wanted a couple of 90 mins too.............. I get 2 free sessions, said id go back tomorrow, but I'd quite like to try *other club tomorrow, cant get hold of the secretary though......
I was in lane 5, but he said i will have to move you up, so maybe lane 4 tomorrow if i go. The top two lanes seemed to be dominated by men, so id be happy to get to lane 3 !I was overtaking my lane in the end, they all started quick on the warm up then slowed for the main sets...... I was surprised how quickly 60 mins went by, plus I felt a little deflated that that was it, I could have carried on for another 15 mins or so......

That's really useful, thanks! Once I get warmed up and really into my stride, or rather stroke I go from floppy/flipper style action that comes from more like my ankles/calves to more of a longer motion, like almost rolling my hips. That's coming from the hip flexor isn't it? Am all a bit rubbish at this physiology thing!
A lifetime of injuries has taught me much about biomechanics ! :)

Yes my apologies adroit.
I find talking to people at pools takes ages, sometimes I dont have time to talk, but I always Thank people for letting me go in front etc..... Lane etiquette doesnt cost anything.
Dont want to do another boring 4k up and down a indoor pool today..... am thinking about Brockwell Lido......... Wonder what temp it is....... wetsuit ?

wrong thread.
i really don't like them though. they're a real coven. there's four or five of them and me. they make no effort to involve me in their bitchy middle class conversations. for which i should be thankful i suppose. bleaurgh!
Am lost ! Are you talking about this thread, another forum or you masters Lane Hags ???
Please advise, am getting paranoid now........

wise words knackers. and good links.
think i'm going to sign up for the middlesex masters competition. apparently it's quite a good laugh. why not eh? think i need to pay my ASA fees first though. will find out.
here's last night's cally masters fly set:
warm up: 800 alternating front and back.
main set fly. 15 seconds rest between every 200m. all straight swim with fins.
1x200m fly
2x100m fly
4 x50m fly
8x25m fly100 easy then repeat main set plus another 100 easy to cool down.
600m breaststoke kick consisting of:
150m with float
150m 2 kicks to one pull
150m on the back (very undignified and a bit gynaecological)400m freestyle pull (full stroke with paddles and fins)
200m medley sprints, each 25m on 1min.
Total 3,800m in 90 minutes.
fun!*
*or ot would be if i didn't hate the old hags in my lane. i need to either dig very deep and go up another lane (into "top lane" territory) or drop back to the lower middle lane where they're friendly and pleasant.
Go for it, yes I think you need an ASA registration >?
- That main set looks hard !

Good rules....what's the haps with a kickboard? Keepp thinking I should try a few lengths with one. Do you still keep our face down/in the water as if you were doing a front crawl? Am thinking my legs are the least best bit of my front crawl technique. I tend to just flap my feet like flippers but really should be putting more power/bending the knee more, right?
A good Kick drill, I find is also on swimsmooth, Its basically one kick to one pull, so you are mainly gliding, BUT; I find this really makes me focus on my legs. I add a lap or two of this into a normal fc set every while. Once Ive finished the drill, I find my kick to be much better in normal fc.
Oh no, my bad, it is by TI (Total Immersion). Here it is; Check out the Kick ! :)

Kickboard for fc ? You can put your face down like when swimming, and breath to the side or up, or leave your face out of the water. Or use other drills, without a board.
No to bending the knee too much. Feet fluttering is good ! Think - Floppy feet, Floppy ankles.
There is only a small bend in the knee when kicking on fc. It is more of a fluid motion from the hip flexor to the ankles.
Not scissor kick, this causes more drag. Check out Mr Smooth animation... -

wot she said. it's the easiest stroke to do slowly "old lady style" (trying to keep your hair dry). but it's the toughest stroke to swim quick in terms of power in vs momentum out. i hate it!
masters for me tonight. looking forward to it.
Probably because its so un-dynamic, thinking about the actual movement of limbs, position of body to the direction of travelling through the water.... dolphin kick is genius though !
I love swimming !

No, Breast stroke is probably the easiest for most people. Although, I hardly swim it at all anymore, and find it the most exhausting and boring stroke now ! I should do more breast stroke !
Are you doing front crawl with your head up, or breathing in the water ? Same with breast stroke ? Head up ? or Breathing out in the water ?

Ha ! Sounds like a lovely evening ! Am Jealous !
Must get down to the Sea soon ! Hoping to start my local Masters club this Sunday...... Yay ! But was thinking maybe, I should spend Masters money on getting to the sea and swimming there through the summer months and only do masters in winter months......... makes sense huh !?
Oooo is that Dorney Lake ?
