They didn't have the 293 I was after, but I suspect that's a fairly unusual size (smallish flange Royce hub to very low profile Ambrosio Excellight rim). They had 292 and a fair number of others though. DT Swiss and Sapim were mentioned - the 292s were DT Swiss so that's what I got.
Definitely worth a go, and one could always call ahead.

I'm getting precariously close to buying a Athena groupset. Like, moments away. If anyone can find it for cheaper than 500 (with 175 cranks) or 575 (with 175 carbon cranks) I will buy you a beer tonight.
Yeah, thanks for that. You've got me browsing for Athena now, despite having perfectly good Centaur 10 on the Yates course bike. Git. ;-)

"What is Chris Hoy going to do next ?"
"The day that Chris Hoy talks about Chris Hoy in the third person is the day that Chris Hoy's head disappears up Chris Hoy's arse."
as quoted on this promising-looking new site: http://www.londonaletaster.co.uk/

Oh you should always complain when it's a big company like Sainsbury's that promotes itself as ethical and friendly. Taking the I-am-a-customer-of-yours line and the this-is-damaging-your-reputation line. Adding for good measure the how-does-this-fit-in-with-your-commitment-to-being-green line.
If I'd got the plate I would have done. Unfortunately, trying to turn right onto Pitfield Street from Gt Eastern means a level of concentration on the rest of the traffic that rendered getting the number inconvenient :-(

Quads aren't intrinsically illegal on the roads AFAIK - I've seen a few with plates in North Wales, where the shepherds find them handy for Scrapheap Challenge-style moving about of bits of farm. The ones you saw will either have been stolen or just cheapies off eBay though - they're this year's pit bike.

Report the taxi to the public carriage office, rather than the police.
If a taxi didn't hit, you, no point in talking to the police since there's no 'collision'.
The form here specifically mentions "cycling near miss": https://secure.met.police.uk/roadsafelondon/ - if nothing else, reporting it means it's in the system and will come up in the stats/reporting.
And the PCO are provenly (over many years) utterly useless for anyone but cab passengers.

So very tempting, especially as it's a ready-made, preserved-in-aspic L'Eroica bike. Truly a lovely thing.
@chaliapin - my grandparents lived in Knowle and Solihull for some decades, if that helps.

Small point in favour of BLB, which I recently discovered: they carry Ambrosio Excellight rims, which are irritatingly hard to track down otherwise. (Cue 53 people telling me their local Tesco does them).
