Offering Gazelle Formula Race frame *SOLD*
'Origineel Gazelle Handwerk' by Gazelle's small race department, the same shop that also crafted the legendary line of Champion Mondial frames. Unlike the Champion Mondial that was usually built from 531 or 753, the Formula frame is built using full Reynolds 525 cromoly tubing. 525 is the equivilent of 531 in characteristics, but 525 can be welded. 531 is for brazing exclusively. The Formula feels about as light as any 531C Champion Mondial. 525 tubing is still available.
The early 90s frame is ready for modern technology with its 130mm rear end spacing and braze on for front mech. Brake cable is nicely routed internally through toptube. Metal headbadge.
Finished in a tasty firetruck red.
Sizing:
Seattube 58cm c-t
Toptube 565mm
Rear spacing 130mmCondition:

Kestrel measures their frames from center BB shel to top toptube (see catalogue). To top seattube will be 1.5-2 centimeters more. I do not have a scale available, but without headset the frameset (incl fork) would be roughly 2 kilo is my guess. This is very good for a frame introduced in the late 80s. It is about a light as my Vitus FCK9 of the same era and much lighter than everything else I have in my collection.

Ringworm,
Back in the early 80s it was quite easy to determine whether your frame was intended for Shimano or Campagnolo. Shimano shifters needed another fitting. Shimano 7400, introduced in 1984, could also be fitted on Campag braze ons, so I do not know till when builders continued with specific fittings.
When I acquired your frame, years ago, it had an Ultegra headset fitted, but I think it was somewhat more recent than the frame. Campagnolo could also have been a likely option, as 'frame only' was how these frames were delivered ussually. However, this frame originally belonged the one of Holland's best triatletes. What would someone with a not so traditionalist nature choose in the early 90s? I think 7400 was the best performing stuff.
Shimano would do really well on your frame, but Campagnolo would be class too. Dito for Superbe, Zap or New Success if you ask me. Good luck with composing your very fine bike.

Recently I have been working on my 1968 Fongers-RIH project. Earlier this week I fitted clamp on Campagnolo shifters, guide, pump umbrella and Stronglight bottom bracket (2x 11 loose balls). With a couple more bits fitted it really starts to look like a bike now.

Most of the parts are donated by a small size RIH. Not all: the Stronglight Competition acier cranks and Titan post came from a crashed Germi.

The small size RIH was a couple years younger. Nuovo Record rear mech says Patent 71. Pretty much everything that came from this bike was from Campagnolo's Nuovo Record group, but the hubs are Normandy Luxe Competition examples. Nice hubs.
Many of the original parts of the red RIH couldn't be used anymore. After the bike was retired from racing it served as city bike and it had a traditional Dutch bike cockpit fitted - to give an idea. Hence I decided to set pretty much everything from the small RIH over on the red one.
Next task:
Fitting bottle cage

Roto BB and R531, so it can only be an AA frame.
I don't think there are AA-Specials with ROTO bracket shells, but I can be wrong.Yes, the AA-Special came with Roto too Dc. I have one here in greyish/silver with blue panel and HT. If I recall correctly my old Stayer has a Roto shell too. Probably also for early pistas?
