Hmm, it took me a few days to adjust from SPD to Atac, but it was second nature after about a week (using Dominators). Just found if I pointed my toe down it'd slide/click in perfectly. Never heard of tread getting in the way, and pretty sure there are a lot of atac users on here with a variety of shoes.

how is it different?

1) plan trip to jumble, get up really early, drive car (if you can), spend £n on fuel, get home maybe mid afternoon, possibly with a rusty Carlton if you're lucky
2) buy something online, pay over the internet, wait a few days, walk maybe 10 mins to the post office

Driving around the country picking up deals from jumbles then selling them on here = a service saving a lot of people time and effort.
Sitting on your computer having stuff sent to you then selling it on via the forum = very different.

Tell your friend to get the tools to do it himself. He'll want a new crankset before he manages to break it.

It's a bit annoying. They're just not very good. I used mine for about 2 months then bit the bullet and bought a decent set.
I guess the main problem fixed-gear-related is that you can't adjust for even chain tension - mine was uneven (like most probably are), so always had a very slack point in my chain that I couldn't tap out.
