I don't think overtaking on the wrong side of the road is any more dangerous than filtering up the inside. Certainly lessens the chances of hitting a pedestrian or having a door opened into you.
If you're passing a line of normal cars you usually have a very good view of what's down the road, be it someone turning out of a junction or whatever. Unfortunately there are so many chelsea tractors/vans/buses around the place that you need to be even more aware of what you can't see, because that's probably what will get you in trouble.

Sorry, the toenail thing was an attempt at flippancy. Chest is actually causing me some concern, despite me urging it to HTFU for the past two weeks. Doctors appointment is obviously the result of a desperate realisation that professional intervention may be necessary. Hopefully make it out later for some proper medicine.

Which begs the question that if there are 140 metres of altitude gain around the circle, surely it would be possible to cut out a lap or two of Swain's to get the Ventoux altitude? ;) #fishingforluckies
That 7m was just the Inner Circle. I checked bikehike to see what the Outer Circle was, and depending on where you start/finish, a lap varies between 56 and 65 feet. So twenty laps is something like 360m, or about 5x Swains. Does that help?
At least it seems convinced that the distance of a lap is 2.77 miles.

I went past there at about 8:40, it's less than half a mile from home on my way to work. There were already several police cars and an ambulance in attendance. Obviously concerned at the time there might have been a cyclist involved, but it's such an unassuming road I thought it unlikely. I noticed flowers at the scene on the way home, but couldn't find any news online yesterday evening.

That shit is so obvious when kids try that. One girl in my year 9 class tries hiding the headphone cord under her hair and covering her ears. She then forgets to not tap away to the music, or bop her head.
Must make you wish you were of the generation who could chuck board rubbers at the little bastards.
Tap, tap, tap... thump.

"The bike lane on Friars stops at the off-ramp and a new one begins in the far right lane just past the exit, Christman said."
Such design might be referred to as an accident waiting to happen.
