Had my first one tonight. Think it was caused by having a cable lock wrapped around the top tube making me shift my knees out a bit further than usual. Anyways, one foot came loose and I was bobbing up and down on the other leg 4 or 5 times before my speed dropped, brain engaged and I got the other foot back on the pedal. It was a real WTF moment. Managed to stay upright and in a (fairly) straight line luckily as there was a line of cars following me away from a green light.
Don't want to do that again in a hurry. -

@ GP - Great pics. Love the ancient floor loading sign in pic #2 and big old machinery in general. Is it an old power station?
I've been working down here recently. Looks like a bit of you.

My geared bike has left front brake and I've been fine with it so far but still have this fear at the back of my mind of problems in the event of an emergency stop, particularly in the wet, although based on my one recent emergency stop on my previous geared bike I pulled both levers as hard as I could and did lock up the rear. It was a moment of panic with the option being hitting an oncoming right turning car at 15 - 20 mph.

A little know fact is that drivers (and presumably riders) must give way to peds already crossing when entering side streets.
Jeez, there's even a facebook page

i may actually be talking shit, but a ped defo has right of way at a zebra crossing
But that does not give them carte blanche to step straight out onto one without first checking it's safe to do so.

If it's reported to the Police, they will be able to do a search on a partial plate and hopefully track down the offending vehicle.
