I have had a Genesis Day One Cross since feb and find it is the most used of my 4 bikes, as previously stated it can handle the rough stuff as I have gone along dirt tracks and 'off road' cycle paths. I have changed only the rear tyre to a Randonneur Trail which seams a good compromise to fast rolling on the road and grip on the looser stuff, the front is the stock knobblyish one. Gearing can be a little low but down here in hilly Cornwall the 42- 18 freewheel works just fine, also I changed the brakes to cantis- a bit controversial I know but the drop levers and Vs felt way too spongy for me. And I have a rear rack fitted with a front little rack that goes on the canti mounts for that utilitarian feel.
I bought this bike as an all rounder which is does heller well, your choice may depends really if you ride on road only or fancy a bit of 'off piste' as well.
Hope this helps.
