Not using this so seems silly to hang onto it.

Older main frame , but with a new back end inc pivot joint in the last year or so, as that is where they typically rust and fail.
Some modern upgrades such as the brakes, shifter, beefier suspension and the clip to stop the back end moving when you lift it.

No worries . Given the colour of your photo, I thought at first you had zoomed in on mine. I bought the bike at what I thought was a great price from an old guy and it looks hardly used . I wonder if such a crack is warranty able or fixable , I know they went to double sided braces on the swing arm in later versions as no front mec h needed .
Will update later, j had to source and roglue a chain protector so was staring at that area, but not sure I was paying attention .

Test ride went well.
Could not be happier.
First one by set up for me and works really well.
Chain fell off the top of cassette at one point, but no damage luckily. School boy error.
Get the xt shifter for the extra special shift options, rest of it can be deore in my opinion.

What wheels have you got on there , wondering if you can just replace freehub or may need a new complete hub and a quick rebuild.
Or use a sunrace casette as they fit on anything.

Getting hold of Shimano kit is the problems. I bought a mix of Shimano 12 speed recently from Merlin for c £300. 1 wanted to keep it all Shimano , which meant changing my freehub for a microdrive one . You would not have that problem with 11 speed and could avoid it with a sram 12 speed cassette. And yes to Shimano deore disc over bb7 . I have Bb7s on two bikes which are ok but denotes are great.

Nice bike . Just bought an old Santa Cruz Tallboy and upgraded from 3by9 by 1by12 and new brakes. Super happy with outcome and will sort some pictures at the weekend .

I have a nice xt 9 speed groupset that would go well on there . Front wheel and some Shimano disc brakes too.

A lot of people do not like the shiny bracelets and have the centre links polished to same as the rest of the bracelet. I had a seamaster 300 that had this done before I bought it, but I let that go to get the Railmaster . I have smallish wrists and the 57 is a perfect for .

Get a Railmaster 1957 reissue .
