I fitted a set of the Apex brakes on my son's road bike and they work beautifully - a bargain that doesn't seem to compromise safety.
Incidentally, I've been a happy user of Kool Stop salmon pads for years - £9 a pair compared to the Swissstop £24, and excellent in the rain and they don't grind the rims to paste as quickly.
And I've just fitted a pair of R650 (Ultegra level 57mm drop) callipers on my geared bike. V nice, and at £49 only a little over half RRP at Ribble.

HoKe riding through Hatcham Saturday lunchtime. I saw the face first and t wasn't until you'd passed that I got a vague fleeting impression of the bike. No, I lied. Saw the bike a mile off. I was mondeoengering, taking offspring between gigs.
Oh, and two separate fixed riders in Salisbury yesterday.

I’ve gone through the parts box and thrown quite a lot out, but there were some things that I thought folk on here might find useful. Some of them a probably worth asking money for but, if no price is given, it’s free.
Rather than clogging this page up with photos, here's a link to a set on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/62297839@N05/sets/72157629503164808/
- Bottom right – a medium ratio 7sp HG70 cassette: £5 [DIBS coventry eagle]
Top right: a really useful adapter to put behind a 7sp cassette to make it fit snugly on a wider freehub body [DIBS sacredhart] - Some sort of toe trap things in case you forget that you need to keep your feet on the pedals
- a 16” inner tube (Brompton size) unused
- MTB inner tube still in its box
- bag of bits of two separate minoura space grip things
- bottle cage – topeak with a bolt for adjusting the grip
19/20. unused lower headset cup, I think from a Tange Levin or passage - 7sp freewheel
- Two bits of Salmon mudguard fittings
- Weinmann 750 deep drop centrepull rear brake
- rockrider (decathlon) bar ends – well worn from a tour of Ethiopia
- set of 5 Campag chainring bolts (double)
- 4 torx/hex double chainring bolts [DIBS pandah]
I live in SE23 and work in WC2. To be honest, as most of this stuff is free, I’m not interested in travelling great distances to deliver or in queueing at the post office, so preference will be given to folk who can pick up, or who can have stuff dropped off with them between WC2 and SE23.

I've been chopping and changing my commuting bike again, and have two saddles up for sale. I've included the cage because it goes nicely with the Bianchi saddle. I'm in SE23 and work in WC2, and can deliver. Postage is likely to be under a fiver per saddle.
The white Rolls dates from 1990 and is well used but by no means ripped up. £SOLD

rolls1 by PaulRide, on FlickrThe Bianchi saddle is newer, and is king of turbo-ish in shape. Quite well padded, but the vinyl covering is not very hard wearing and I've managed to punch some holes in it when lifting my bike out of the rack at work which has some vicious spikes that are part of a Grade 1 listed staircase so my employers don't care that I've also managed to punch holes in my head when shifting my bike (I guess if I complained about it, they'd tell me to wear a magic hat). £SOLD

celeste2 by PaulRide, on FlickrThe bottle cage is lightly used - classic Elite model. £5 [dibsed and ready for collection]

I have a white Rolls that I no longer use. It shows its age in that there is some griminess in the grain of the leather, and one of the original gold rivets has come out and been replaced with a little silver screw, but it's not ripped and is still the right shape! I can do photos tonight if you're interested.

dibs number 3. I have no idea what they are, but they look cool.
What are they?They're bar end plugs, just a bit fancier than the ones that come packaged with grips or bar tape, and just a bit heavier. You could probably use them to stop your champagne from losing its fizz too.
Let me know where they need to be delivered to, and I'll let you know whether/when I can drop them off.
Oh, and they're definitely VERY cool.

I'm having another clearout (who isn't these days?). I'm a resident of SE23 and work in WC2, so can deliver in central or south London pretty easily. Let me know if you would want anything posted - I can then work out whether it's worth charging anything for postage.
- Shimano A520 single-sided SPD "touring" pedals. In decent condition, bearings seem smooth but there's some trivial rustage on the steel bit. These came on a bike I recently bought but I'm sticking with double-sided SPDs. £10
- A rather lovely brown Brooks B66 with double rails and humungous chromed springs. It's really in very good nick, clearly not used much. I bought this for the stoker of my tandem but it has not met with the necessary approval and must therefore go. It will come with the twin-rail clamp, but for that you would need an old-fashioned seatpost with a straight top section rather than a built-in saddle clamp. £SOLD
- Who would want these? Well, I guess at some point I thought I did. They're very snazzy and a lovely shade of blue, but they're quite heavy and perhaps only worth having if you need some extra weight on your bars. Free, so long as I don't have to deliver too far away. [GONE]
- Interesting one this - a pretty neat bit of lighting design by the knog folks, this is a powerful front light (I think they called it the Knog Gator 105) with a very small light unit that takes up hardly any space on your bars and is really easy to fit and remove with its rubbery attachment bits. It is connected (by means of a good secure connector) to a separate NiMH battery unit that can be mounted on the top tube or, as I've done on some night rides, in a saddlebag. The light can be switched between a variety of combinations of little LED, big LED, both LEDs, flashing and so forth. I've used it on a few night rides but now I have a hub dynamo and so no need for this.
I think they charged about £90 for this when it came out, but I'd only want £25 for this. It comes complete with a mains charger.
GONE- A stem of no great significance - it came on the same bike as the pedals above, but I'm running a different bar diameter so this is up for grabs. Pazzaz brand, for 1.125" steerer and 1" bar, four bolts on the bar clamp and two on the steerer clamp. It's clearly a budget carbon wrap over alloy job, nice and light but the balck lacquer on the upper and lower edges of the steerer clamp has flaked a bit to reveal the alloy beneath. £5 anyone? Ah yes, AlexB's mischievous sense of humour with the milepost...
Various other things are drifting back into my memory, such as:
(a) riding with Nitto Promenade bars and discovering that they're not ideal for 113 mile rides;
(b) getting cross with someone in Framlingham who decided to tell me I was going the wrong way;
(c) having a delicious pint of Adnams outside the pub at Finchingfield and meeting the springer spaniels on the cargo bike;
(d) sitting on the grass at Dunwich and seeing Mrs Ludd and smallest Luddlet arriving in a car for a day by the seaside;
(e) wandering along the marsh and seeing avocets and little terns.
Yes, I was definitely there. Thank you for helping me piece together that part of my life.
