Moon looking good last night

Just west of Aylesbury. Yes, 30s exposure in tonight’s bright moonlight. Cassiopeia and Perseus in there somewhere.
Good cycling, quiet, dark skies, fresh air, owls, deer, otters, beer, right wing people, manure...

I sometimes thing what the hell have we done, why did we leave SE23. At other times I look at this and think why did we wait so long.

Lunchtime is not usually that good for seeing birds but I saw quite a bit today. The ravens were mucking about with each other and with the kites, lots of crazy diving.

I’m afraid my electric car was too fast to allow me to savour these delights. But the glimpse I had does make me want to visit more slowly. I work in Uxbo so I could get over there quite easily.

I had occasion to travel through Ruislip Woods today and then out over the Chilterns and past Hartwell House, where mature parkland is being stripped bare for Hs2. I weep for the loss, but do wonder whether there is some comfort in the thought that this is for rail rather than road. I am torn over this.

I got shouted at by this vampire deer this morning

Lovely morning to be out! I got shouted at by a deer, heard my first sedge warblers of the year, saw ravens, goosanders, reed buntings and a surprise merlin.

This year there seem to be many more song thrushes around than I have seen before. This one was entertaining me this morning.

It was cold out last night there were a lot of galaxies to be seen. Zoom in and count the fuzzy blobs! This is the Coma supercluster, over 300 million light years away, so the light that fell onto my camera sensor last night set off shortly after the mass extinction at the end of the Devonian period, when about 75% of species on our planet were wiped out by something.

My son came with me on a dawn walk today so no otters, but he spotted various interesting things including a green sandpiper and a goosander. We enjoyed the larks as well.
