Yeah I'd already done all of the correct googling and read up on rotafix. It's impressive how much flew you can get out of a wheel!!
I could only get the blue loctite at the time (red packaging, blue fluid) but if it comes loose I'll have t try the other one. I am still using both brakes though, as I have only been running fixed for a few days. I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping the front brake on a while. -

What's your chainline like?!? I tried that and was miles out! My LBS still laugh about it... In a nice way...
BTW Round of applause to peahead for not bitching about his LBS (although they probably deserve it) from the get-go... :]It's probably on a couple of mm out. It's pretty close. I'm having to use the inner ring on the chainset that I have, so I'm running 42/16 rather than 52/20. I'm just trying to keep the cost down as low as possible, so all I've bought to convert the bike is:
2nd risers = £5
track cog = £12
lock ring tool = £10 (although not really a cost to the bike as it is a tool that will last forever!
1/8 chain = £9
pedals/cages/straps = £7
pair of blizzrd sport tires = £18 ( got them in Sheffield so they're rather cheaper than London!
Total = £61 (inc. tool)Not bad to completely convert a 22 y.o. Peugeot into a fixie!
p.s. although I could do with some new forks that will allow me to barspin

I had a similar thing with one of my lbs. They told me that it's not possible to run fixed on an old threaded freewheel hub. I know it's not strictly the best way to run fixed, but I also know that plenty of people do it and get along fine with it. I went home later that day and change my hub straight to fixed. It works:-D

Can we get back to some tricks now?!
Trackstands confuse me. I have no problem trackstanding no-handed, sitting straight up on my saddle. I find that pretty easy, almost a minute. However, lasting more than about 5 seconds with hands on or near the bars is fucking impossible for me? Yeah they're drops and quite low, but still!
Any advice?
Are you turning your wheel towards your front foot or you back foot? I'm still learning, and by no means an expert, but it's meant to be easier for some if you point the front wheel towards your front foot. But this doesn't always work. I think you need to just get plenty of practice in and try different things to find what feels right to you. Everytime you stop at a set of lights, try trackstanding instead of putting a foot down. That's what I'm trying to do at the moment. Hopefully it'll become second nature after a while.
Track standing at the lights is also a much quicker way to get off the line. There's no messing about trying to find your pedal/clip! -

Do I recognise that Geekhouse bike that is being used to advertise it?! -

Cheers scott.
Right then, onto the tricks!
What kind of gear ratios do people run? I think I was using a 52/23 last week to learn wheelies, but now I've put a more permanent cog on so I'm running 42/16. I'm not sure if this is going to make it harder for me to learn wheelies or whether I just need to HTFU!

Firstly...welcome to the forum lurker.
I see the idea behind this thread and there's nothing wrong with that...but you're kind of coming across as a bit 'i'm taking charge' here....would it not have been better to ask peoples opinions on whether they felt such a thread would be beneficial?
You're kind of just telling people to stop using the trixie dix thread now and come over here and start using yours...the people who have been involved with the whole trixie dix thing are pretty passionate about it and it comes across as a little disrespectful to not at least discuss it first on their thread.
I understand that it's your right to start whatever thread you want...but telling people to either 'join in or sod off' is coming across as a bit agrressive for someone who is still pretty new to the forum.
You also now have people asking YOU if it's still ok to post on the trixiedix thread...like i say...that's not fair on the people who started it.You're now talking about writing your own guidelines about who can post what on which thread.
Just my opinions of course.
I've now joined in...so i'll now Sod off.Could you not detect the amount of sarcasm I put in there?!
I did, if you'd read the TrixieDix thread ask about it and several people suggested that I start my own thread for this. The whole intention on the TrixieDix thread was to arrange the actual event, hence why it's in the 'Rides' section of the forum.
All I was trying to do was to put a more obvious thread on the forum for people to talk about tricks.
I also added the 'join in or sod off' comment 'cause I knew peopl like you would get on your high horse about it without reading everything else that has been discussed.
I definitely don't feel like I'm trying to take over, just help people that don't feel confident enough to start a new thread like this.Just to clarify: I'm sorry if I've offended anybody by starting this thread.
Have many people been injured in the past? I didn't see anybody hurt themselves last week, but then I'm not watching everybody!
