The Special was Holdsworth’s model designed for both racing or training with capacity for mudguards with 25mm 700C tyres. This frame is in very sound condition though it has a small dent to the top tube. The paint has been scorched on the head tube when a stuck handlebar stem was removed.. It would make a very easy fixed or singlespeed conversion. £95

TEAM BRITE MICRO LO-PRO TT FRAME Reynolds 853 c1998 built by Paul Donohue

This frame is an ex Team Brite micro lo-pro frame that was ridden by Chris Newton around 1998 and is beautifully built from Reynolds 853 tubing. Paul Donohue’s works built all the Team Brite frames and they employed a tig welder who was truly superb - in my opinion he was just as good as the tig welders at Merlin who I had seen working back in 1994. Its a really gorgeous frame which would equate to about a conventional 21.5 in road frame and is designed for use with a long aero seatpost and aero bars of course. It comes complete as shown in the photos with its original bladed carbon fibre forks. £195

Brian Rourke framesets were and some I believe are still produced in their own workshop by Paul Washington - this frame features his very distinctive and special wrap over seat stays. And has hardly been used - the kit that was taken off looked as if it had not done 100 miles... The paint is truly excellent with just a couple of small chips. This frame I think dates from the middle/late 1990s. I was very impressed by Paul Washington’s workshop when I visited about 12 years ago and his frames are really rather special. £163

This is a really nice Paul Hewitt road frame that has never been built up or used - however the paint is has numerous scratches from being in poor storage. There are however no dents or dings I could find. Columbus Neuron tubing was close to the top of their tubing range in the 1990s and makes for for an excellent stiff and light frame. This frame has vertical dropouts so would not be ideal for use as a conversion. £95

This Shorter frame dates from the second half of the 1970s and has been nicely repainted and not used since. It has one small chip to the paint on the top tube but appears practically unmarked elsewhere. Good quality large frames such as this are not common and it would make a cool fixed or singlespeed conversion. £125

GANNA CITY BIKE Italian 1950s/60s very cool

This is a very cool Italian city bike - Ganna were a medium sized Italian bicycle maker. It has lots of delightful touches - the built-in dynamo lights, the cranks are stamped Ganna and the full chaincase with the Ganna name, even the saddle the leather topped saddle is marked with the Ganna name. The rear mudguard needs a small repair but otherwise its ready to ride though it would probably be a good idea to replace the tyres... The rims are 700C aluminium and the chrome whilst not perfect will clean up much better. £165

The important length dimension is rails to limit marks - different manufacturers have different ideas on how much needs to be inserted into a frame. If the length is specially critical please ask me to double check as the measurements given are approx - normally should be within ± 5mm. If there is no limit mark I have assumed to leave 60mm in the frame.

Please check the seatpost size you need carefully – its very common for frames to have been fitted with seatposts smaller than they should have. This results in the seat lug ears being squashed and the seat tube is then put under extra stress often resulting in cracks starting from the base of the slit. Seatposts should be a tight sliding fit.

Strattons are an old established shop (originally it was Claud Butlers main shop) and have had frames from a number of sources - this frame I do not think is one of the Bill Grey ones but it is nevertheless a rather nice late 80s frame. It has had a dent filled in the down tube and two small ones in the seatstays - hence it is only £69.

I do also have a 25.0mm Chorus aero one in nice condition - it will however be a bit more expensive than Ian's at £35.

This is a very nice touring frame which has brazed-on pivots for cantilever or V-brakes. Its in very good condition though the paint has a number of small marks nothing is very obtrusive. It has one small dent near the bottom of the seat tube which will not be noticeable as soon as a chainset is fitted. It comes complete with a Campag headset. It would make a very easy fixed or singlespeed conversion. £145

This is a very early Koga Miyata Professional road frame which can be dated by its frame number to 1976. It was originally built up with Shimano Dura-Ace groupset but has never been used. It has a number of small shopwear marks none of which are particularly obvious. I have an almost complete Shimano Dura-Ace groupset of the correct period with some NOS components which could be used to build this frame up. It is not suitable for fixed or singlespeed conversion unless a magic gear is found. reduced to £185

The paint has a number of marks but nothing which will be too obvious once built up. It sufficient clearances that it could be used with guards with 25mm tyres making it suitable for Audax/Sportive rides. It has a couple of very minor and difficult to see dents on the top tube - this will not affect the performance of the frame in any way. It has horizontal dropouts making it suitable for fixed or singlespeed conversion. £95

This is a large Dawes city bike from the 1980s – its had one previous owner, a monk at Ampleforth College! Its only been lightly used. Its in excellent condition except for the wheels with chrome steel rims which do have some corrosion. Could easily be converted to fixed or singlespeed. £79

This is the largest Mercian frame I have seen - it’s a King of Mercia - for a few years Nervex Pro lugs were an option on King of Mercias. It would make a very easy fixed or singlespeed conversion. £195

This frame has been converted by Argos with track ends. I suspect it originally started off as a close clearance TT frame with steep angles and it was suggested to me that the frame number (BBC169) meant that it originated from Ken Birds shop … BBC standing for Birds Bicycle Centre). I think that is quite likely as in the 70s and early 80s he specialised in TT frames with drilling such as this one has in the BB. Whatever it now makes an excellent track frame. £185

Carpenter was one of the best craftsman framebuilders of the 1930s/50s – the lugs on this frame have a beautiful clean shoreline with not a hint of braze in the wrong place and are filed perfectly evenly; it is rare to see frames built with so much care. The paint is the original and a set of repro decals for the down tube tube would make this frame look very presentable. With horizontal dropouts its easily used as a singlespeed or fixed. £145

This frame though decalled up as a Pearson is a Motobecane Special Pro from the late 1970s. Motobecane frames were ridden in the 1970s to a Tour De France win and their Team was one of the top continental pro road teams. This frame, the European equivalent of the Team Pro sold in the USA is built from Columbus SL tubing and dates from around 1978. Its in very sound useable condition. It will make a very easy fixed or singlespeed conversion. You will find it difficult to find a Columbus SL frame of equivalent quality for less than £150 - its just £95.

This Motobecane road bike dates from the late 1970s and comes equipped with the first version of the Shimano 600 gears. The frame is tidily built from Vitus 888 tubing and the paint is generally in very good condition. The wheels are very good and it is is perfectly rideable condition. £125

This 1934 Raleigh Sports bike is in great mostly original condition. It was purchased new in August 1934 and comes complete with its original bill of sale and a copy of the page from the original catalogue. The paint and decals are generally very good to excellent as is the chrome plating. The wheels have been replaced but are of the correct type and saddle maybe original is not in great condition though it is useable. The original rubber tread pedals are included. This would make a perfect bike for Tweed runs. SOLD

DAVE YATES CLASSIQUE ROAD BIKE Ultegra 9-spd Reynolds 631 Almost unused

This road bike was built by Dave Yates was built in 2002 and is in superb condition - it looks as if it has only done a 100 miles or so at the most. The rear rim shows no brake wear, the front minimal brake wear. The frame is built from Reynolds 631 tubing and the bike has a full Shimano 600 Ultegra 9-speed groupset, with ITM finishing parts and rims are Mavic Open Pro. The paint on the frame is virtually perfect. Current frame cost for a new equivalent Dave Yates 631 frame starts at £850 so this complete bike is a bargain at £395. Frame & forks alone £245.

This road bike built by Arthur Caygill dates I think from 1999 is in superb condition with virtually no marks to the paint. Arthur Caygill frames were (maybe still are) built by Richard Kent who learnt his craft at Bob Jacksons in the 1970s. It is equipped with mixture of Shimano and Campagnolo components … Shimano 8-spd Dura-Ace rear gear and STI levers, Shimano wheels, Campagnolo Chorus dual-pivot callipers and front derailleur and Athena chainset with ITM finishing parts. This is a stunningly gorgeous bike. Complete bike as is £575. Frame & Forks alone £395.

MKM stood for the three original partners in the firm - Arthur METCALFE, Ron KITCHING & Wes MASON and the frames were built in Harrogate during the 1970s and I think early 1980s. This small track frame is very nicely built with tight clearances and some cool features such as the engraved seatstay tops and fork crown. And the paint is in very sound condition.But it has a dent to the down tube which looks as if something has been dropped on it - this will not affect how it rides or its strength. £145
