Flandria were one of the major Belgian framebuilders in the 1980s sponsoring a very successful continental pro team. This Team Replica frame is extremely neat and cool - the drilled lugs are especially nice. The paint is in very good condition though there are a number of marks. With long road ends it will make very easy easy fixed or single speed conversion. £125 SOLD

This Belgian built lo-pro frame is unused though it does appear as if it has been partly built up at some time – however it is essentially unused. The paint is virtually perfect with just one or two very small marks. It is really very light so must have been built from pretty lightweight double butted tubing. It has horizontal dropouts so would be ideal to be used as a fixed/singlespeed conversion. £159 SOLD

Dawes Galaxy were THE stock touring frame in the early 1980s - this the Super Galaxy version with full Reynolds 531ST tubing dates I think from about 1985. I has braze-ons for cantilever brakes and racks front and rear. The paint is in sound condition though there is a scrape on one side of the top tube. An excellent basis for a budget tourer. £89 SOLD

GRANBY TAPERLITE ROAD FRAME c1938

Granby can make a reasonable claim to be the first of the British lightweight frame builders - being almost certainly the first British frame builder to build in the new style with smaller wheels, ten and a half inch high bottom bracket and brazed up tapered seat and chainstays during WWI. Granby is however more famous for taper tube frames which were built from 1925. Taper tube frames were built in search of the Holy Grail of a 'stiff' frame. This frame which dates from the late 1930s is in exceptionally sound condition. The Chater-Lea headclip has been rechromed and it has a Chater-Lea light bracket included. It must be remembered that frames pre-war were used with much shorter handlebar stems - typically 3-5cm... I can deliver it free of charge for the successful bidder to Argos Cycles who I consider to be one of the best frame painters in the UK. In the late 1970s Monty Young at Condors resurrected the Paris name and for quite a number of years frames were produced under the Paris name. This I think is one of their earlier frames and is really rather nice. This frame was built by Tom Board when he built frames for Condors. Its in very sound condition though the paint has quite a number of marks. It will make a very easy conversion to singlespeed or fixed gear. £95 SOLD

Paramount was the name used by A & C Sports in Mansfield for the frames they built in-house. This bike is built around a rather nice Paramount frame from I think the 1960s. It has been nicely repainted - this has a few small marks. It is equipped with Shimano Sora 7spd gears with STI levers, Alhonga dual-pivot brakes, Shimano 105 hubs built with Mavic Open 4CD rims, a triple Sora chainset, an excellent Selle Italia saddle and rear rack. Ready to ride. £195

Most are 3/32in – however 1/8in chain will run perfectly on 3/32in chainrings. There a few 151mm and 144mm BCD track chainrings. There are plenty of bargains to be had...

This frame has been converted by Argos with track ends. I suspect it originally started off as a close clearance TT frame and it was suggested to me that the frame number (BBC169) meant that it originated from Ken Birds shop … BBC standing for Birds Bicycle Centre). I think that is quite likely as in the 70s and early 80s he specialised in TT frames with drilling such as this one has in the BB. Whatever it now makes an excellent track frame. £185

Mercks road frames from the early 1970s are very rare in this country. Merckx licensed the use of his name to different builders in countries across Europe - in England inexplicably it was Falcon but in Belgium it was Kessels. This frame sourced from Germany was almost certainly built by Kessels. Its obviously a quality frame with drilled lugs and heavily slotted BB shell. The frame weight is about 2kg and it takes a 27.0mm seatpost so is built from good quality tubing. The long Campy dropouts suggest it is from the first half of the 1970s. Its ideal for a singlespeed or fixed conversion with its long horizontal dropouts. £195

Sheffield-Langsett as the name implies came from Sheffield - this very beautiful track frame dates I think from the late 30s or 40s. It has been beautifully rechromed and comes complete with an excellent Chater-Lea headclip. It just needs painting now - a chance to paint in the colour of your choice. I think I know where to obtain some repro decals. The lugs are really very splendid in the early English fancy lug style... This will make a superb period track bike... £195

This is an extremely nice large track frame from the 1970s - the lugs are beautifilluy detailed with two drilled holes as is the fork crown. The bottom bracket shell has two long additional stiffeners - on the underside of the down tube and one on the back of the seat tube both of which have drilled holes. Clearances are nice and tight with steep angles - it will ride really nicely. It has been painted with Hammerite paint which is quite ghastly but I have removed some of this ion an attempt to se if there were decals iunderneath – unfortunately not but it did reveal that the tubing looked to be in excellent condition. Repainted it will look truly stunning. Large track frames such as this are really uncommon... £175

This frame I think dates from the middle/late 1990s. I was very impressed by Paul Washington’s workshop when I visited about 12 years ago and his frames are really rather special. £175

This is a very early Koga Miyata Professional road frame which can be dated by its frame number to 1976. It was originally built up with Shimano Dura-Ace groupset but has never been used. It has a number of small shopwear marks none of which are particularly obvious. I have an almost complete Shimano Dura-Ace groupset of the correct period with some NOS components which could be used to build this frame up. It is not suitable for fixed or singlespeed conversion unless a magic gear is found. reduced to £185

Its in excellent condition with near perfect chrome and pearl white paint with only a few marks. It would be an excellent basis for a very cool fixed or singlespeed conversion. £165

This is an excellent Mercian Vincitore road frame from I think 1982 - its in excellent condition with just few very minor marks to the paint. The Vincitore was nearly at the top of Mercian’s range (just the Vincitore Special above) and would now cost over £900 including VAT in the most basic tubing available. Its a very attractive frame and really quite unusual frame especially in this small size. It could easily be used as a fixed/singlespeed conversion. £295

‘HETCHINS’ ROAD FRAME Harry Butler Magnum Opus III Special

This is a Harry Butler special 'Hetchins' frame built in the early 1990s. Harry Butler was a dealer in the 90s who specialised in classic frames - he had many built by a number of frame builders. This ‘Hetchins’ is built with with Bates Reynolds 531 Cantiflex tubing - it has a larger section in the middle of all three main tubes and Bates Diadrant fork blades. There was one official Hetchins frame built with Bates Cantiflex tubing but this is not it... However it is built really very nicely in the style of the Magnum Opus type III but not quite the same - in fact with slightly more ornate lugs... The paint is in very good/excellent condition - the chrome is generally very good except around the BB shell which is very common on all chrome frames. The previous owner (a friend of of mine) said that it rides beautifully - he has had since about 1997 when he bought it from Harry Butler. Although the frame number is of the correct type for a Bob Jackson built Hetchins it is in the wrong place and with the wrong font for an official frame; in fact this frame number belongs to a Hetchins tandem... £295

This Holdsworth Cyclone dates from about 1954 - it has been beautifully repainted and has had only light use since - there are a few small marks to the paint but nothing at all obtrusive. The Cyclone was one of Holdsworth’s top models with ornate lugs. £225

This is a very tidy and pretty road frame from the 1970s built with Prugnat single point lugs and a Cinelli style fully sloping fork crown - it looks as if it might have been built in the Holdsworthy factory judging by the style. It would make a very easy fixed/singlespeed conversion £99

This is a Jack Taylor road or possibly cyclocross frame which dates from 1965. It was repainted at some time by Dentons in Newcastle. It comes complete with Mafac cantilever brakes mounted for sprint/700C wheels. With the addition of rack and guard mounts it would make a great small tourer. The paint is in very poor condition so the price reflects this - a new set of Jack Taylor decals is included. It will make a very straightforward fixed or singlespeed conversion. £145

This Swinnerton road frame built from the light Reynolds 653 tubing is in very good condition except for some paint scrapes on the right-hand seatstay. It could well have been built by George Longstaff (George’s daughter managed the Swinnerton shop) and their top frames were built by Longstaffs for quite a period of frame - it certainly shows some George Longstaff details. In my opinion George Longstaff was probably the finest British framebuilder of the last twenty years of the 20th century. It would make a very cool fixed or singlespeed conversion. £149

Falcon are best known for their budget and medium priced frames but in the 19690s and 1970s also had a top specced road frame in their range - the San Remo and they sponsored a full Professional team for much of this time. This frame belonged to Vic Smith, a top amateur road rider and time triallist in the East Midlands from the 1960s/70s. Its in very sound condition but needs repainting as the paint is in very poor condition. And will make a very easy conversion to fixed or singlespeed. £89

Over the years there have been very few frame builders in Wales - Tony Oliver, Nelson of Crickhowell, Reg Barnett etc but the builder of this frame is a new one on me... James Lendon of Cardiff. Its a beautifully built fillet brazed frame from I should think about 1950 - I think its quite possibly built for a hybrid gear system with Sturmey hub gear and a derailleur judging by the braze-ons but it could easily be used as a fixed or singlespeed. it is really a lovely cool frame with a great patina... £95
