Dawes came back from the powder coaters today. Late 90s Dawes are not the best for clear coat it seems. + the guy who blasted it missed a few bits but hey the frame was free and a blast and clear coat was £20. Also cleaned up a rear wheel.

I don't give a fuck what your saying. You are sprouting off at the mouth like a fucking mad man every time a say anything. So, if you don't mind... Kindly fuck off from referring to my posts... Bruce
nyquil, can you just do us all a favour and stop posting your whining shit in this thread. Either post bike porn, make reasonable comments on what's being posted or just fuck off.
The Concorde is a bit of a dog's dinner imo. Im not feeling the Moser either.

Look forward to seeing the end result Chris, blog it.
Yeah, will do. Stripped it last night and Stu's takin it to the powder coaters next week. Don't know how long it might take tho. I'm fresh out of girlfriend points after the amount of time i spent at Stu's shop building the Strong Island bike. Next up I gotta sort Amy's bike for the ride on Sunday. You goin?

stolen and not looked after
any one with that bike put effort and money into it, they wouldn't just leave it
Maybe
My Major Nichols came from a mate of mine who didn't know what he'd been given. All campag with mafac brakes. Had been well abused by the time I got hold of it. Left out in the rain every day. Gears and brakes had never been touched. Chain and cessette were as dry as a bone and rusty as fuck. I gave him £50 for it nd he thought he was ripping me off.

I think it's safe to assume that any Galaxy with normal sized tubes is 531, they made them from that for about the first 3 millennia of production before switching to oversized tubes.
Done bit of research and apparently they used 531ST in the late 90s and that's why it has a 27.0 seat post instead of 27.2 with regular 531? Don't know if that's right tho, I'm no expert. Been looking for 531ST decals and they seem pretty hard to come by. Had no problem finding 708 for my Carrera Corsa and I though that was a fairly uncommon tube set.

bet it was stolen for some chav to get home but they didn't like the seat so high so they chucked it
bit of love that would be a lovely touring style bike
I did concider whether it might have been stolen but it's clearly been abused for some time. Tyres, rear brake cable and bar tape are all worn through, front brake was slack as hell and the brooks saddle was so loose the pin had popped out the front. Don't think anyonewould have bothered to steal it. Also the chain was stuck in between the bottom bracket and the inner chain ring. I'm guessing that was when the previous owner said fuck it and dumped it.
Gonna get it coated, pollish every bit to within an inch of its life, replace all the cables etc. Don't know that i'll be doing any long distance touring on it but It'll be nice to have something for rides where the terrain is just a bit rough for the road bike.

I was just about to type the same thing, even taking it to a shop for a service and you've got a decent bike to have some adventures on... looks like someone put a fair bit of thought into the build.
needs mudguards instead of those reflectors though.
Think that's the spec they had of the peg. Might put mudguards on when the weather turns again.

New project, found dumped.

Dawes Super Galaxy
Well abused but salvagable. Think the frame is 531ST but it doesn't have a sticker. I've read this was fairly common on Dawes in the late 90s? Mostly Deore LX groupset with Mavic rims and ITM/3ttt bar/stem. Think I'm gonna get it clear powder coated, get some Panaracer Paselas and loose the ugly chainst. Otherwise I think i'll stick with the bits that are on it.
Came with a Brooks B17 saddle but the rails are pretty grotty. Is it best to paint em without removing them or can you take em off to powder coat and rivet them back on? Also the sadle was so baggy the pin had come out the front. I managed to get it back in place and oiled the threads but when I try and tighten the nut at the front, the pin turns with it. Anyone else had this problem?

Shhh
You are not meant to agree with him. My other half actually notifies me when she notices he has been posting as she finds his outbursts hilarious and the scorn he is treated with even more amusing.
I thought the bike was good, I am assuming they are suspension corrected forks to enable other forks to be used too.
Yeah, he can be pretty funny but I do sometimes find it a bit annoying, having to trawl through pages of that shit to find some actual bike porn. Could he have his own rant thread maybe? I'd subscribe :)
Suspension corrected forks makes sense. Still don't like the look of them tho. Would prefer to see it with suspension forks fitted. Then it'd be porn for me.

This one's just a test piece soldered onto a head tube that's been cut off a broken frame.
Did this one for my mates new bike tho and it came out quite nicely. Much easier being square tho.
