I own and ride a swobo, but just the frame and fork, the rest is custom, I like it, apart from the fact the bb is lightly lower than the pista to the ground, so if you have big feet or big pedals, expect the odd pedal, foot scrape on kerbs or the ground when pushing it, other than it is cool, and has served me well so far.

How difficult is to wash a base layer? I worked in an outdoor adventure shop
(think Blacks + Millets combined with high end ski stuff) for several years, and yes lots of people said exactly the same thing, you don't need to wash it as much, but the HH base layers are far superior when it comes to wicking capabilities, and really when it comes to washing, nikwax basewash, a sink, and about ten minutes or so of your time!
I've owned some expensive exotic merino layers which I got cheap, probably better quality than rapha, if the fact that retail at nearly double suggests anything. Firstly, durability sucks, the HH stuff lasts much longer and is tougher, and it just does not wick as well as the decent synthetic stuff, secondly fit, its easier to make decent stretchy synthetic stuff that stays stretchy over time, not possible with merino, it sags over long periods of time. It is good, it is better than a t-shirt, but not a patch on HH stuff or high end synthetics in my opinion and many others. -

Lovely, I just got back from a trip to Val thorens from 10 days with a mate
- lots of snow, great weather, good powder (for the first few days)
-both of us got really ill bad flu, stopped us ridiing for 2 days and left us weak and shitty for the rest of it, park consisted of one rail, 2 kickers and a hip, not finished but not much else to write home about anyway!
Big fan of austria, I prefer it to france for sure, haven't done USA yet but park city is on my list! - lots of snow, great weather, good powder (for the first few days)

High gearing, schmigh gearing. Htfu. I've never had a problem stopping on my Track, and I ride like an idiot.
If you want some real help, I only ever used my front brake for about 2 months. Then when pissed one day I thought I'd try skidding on ice and it worked really well. So in one foul swoop I learned the basics of skidding. I can't skid every single time but the process of attempting it slows me down quicker. Plus if you read Sheldon he recommends leaning forward enough to the point of minimum contact between rear wheel and ground.
All this braking was new to me anyway, I'd ridden brakeless BMX for too many years!
Same hence why my front brake lasted about 4 days before it actually annoyed me, cut my thumb going over a pothole, so I took it off, and it felt much more normal :)
I think the rudeness of alot of these responses to this guy is a bit over the top though, I know it may all seem normal and funny to anyone who frequents this forum regularly, but it's a bit harsh to react to someone like that who we don't know, and who is genuinely asking for our help about something fixed gear bike related.
I think we should put up a sticky Fixed gear FAQ post in the general forum, it would stop alot of these posts cluttering up the board, and stop a lot of people like this guy from feeling stupid and embarassed just for asking a basic question, just because they have never owned a fixed gear bike before, it would also limit the amount of time that a lot of you guys spend acting like overly superior arseholes, and belittling people, because you know more about something than they do. -
Dude...how the hell do you afford so many boards! thats crazy, are you sponsored or something, or just into collecting, great taste though....mervin boards are beautifully made, whats it like riding a banana board, i've heard mixed reviews from different people, some say its unstable at speed, and sketchy as fuck on big landings, and some say its simply amazing for ollies/butter tricks/anything that involves popping an ollie basically!

I used to bmx also, brakeless and pegless for nearly 10 years, loved the stripped down simpleness of it.. Wanted to get into cycling again, had been bike free for just over a year and it was killing me!
Looked on in envy at various couriers and trendsters thinking how zen like snd chilled they looked whilst bombing along on their bikes, decided to get a sexy custom build knocked up at BLB during one spontaneous and impulsive lunch break (conveniently less than 100m fom my office), 2-3 weeks later I found this forum snd here I am. -
looks like I am out also, long story.
