Loic, come at me bro about a small ethernet switch and I will provide one.
The best thing to do is what Neil says - router in the cupboard and then cat 5 out. Thanks Chris, but I understand no switch will be needed since I will have a dedicated cat5 cable per room, feeded from the modem in the main cupboard next to the master socket. If I get the whole thing right though... And next to that, I will have one phone cable with daisy chain wiring for a phone socket in the 3 rooms, although only one will be used, this is only for future flexibility... Voice and data will use separate cables... Nearly there, will go at lunch time return my sockets and buy some more cat5 cable instead, and simple plates...
Still need to look into the actual wiring of plugs and sockets, now the diagram is sorted out, I've got the tools but need now to understand cable goes in what connector... That next week question... ha!L

~~mmh... Routed skirting boards FTW it seems then, let's have a proper wiring...
Maybe routing myself the skirting boards will be cheaper actually... my neighbour I hope has this machine... ~~
Oh fuck it, I'll take appart my floor boards and run another cat5... That's the easier way actually... :/
Thanks!

Small switch in bedroom2/study, then you could do what you suggest.
Getting very messy though.Yep... Thanks... Argh... Shame I closed the floor board, don't want to remove that again...
There is a solution though, I need new skirting boards in my corridor, as I re-tiled. Pending they make some simple "non victorian" ones, I could use channed routed skirting boards and run phone and data to the living room. Just try to google it with not much succes, maybe I don't use the right name for these... Any recommandation?
(Something like that, but in timber, and that does not need to be demountable...

So in your part of the BT master socket you have a filter, and the blue and green lines come from the the two out channels from the filter? If so, you shouldn't need any more filters - they'd just degrade the signal. All the other sockets should just be plain sockets with no active components in them.
Ah! Thanks for that tip, good thing that maplin will take back these slave filtered sockets I just bought, this will save me money!
But, for best ADSL performance, you should put your modem right next to the master socket, plugged straight into the ADSL side of the filter, with no other wiring on that side of the filter to pick up interference. Then use network cables spread the connection around the house
I can locate the modem right next to the master, I have room. This being just next to the boiler should not be a problem I hope?
Then I suppose I can spread phone with the phone cable that I have ran everywhere, this should be fine.
I suppose I can spread the DSL connection via that CAT5 cable I have ran too... However, for future flexibility though, I am doomed though: I can have one port of the modem going to the bedroom 2, I can still do that. Then another port to the study/bed2 via the cat5 already laid with the phone cable. But I can not go to the living on a third port direct, no way of wiring that route in a neat way (concealed cables)... unless I could put the ethernet outlet of the living room in serie coming from the study above, but does this work? Here a amended diagram for clarity...
Thanks for your comments, this is really helpful!

I think the blue should be phone cable, not cat 5?
Oops, just amended that...
What are you connecting the green to?
To the master socket DSL output. At the moment, our phone is connected to the phone output of that plug, and the BT modem to the DSL output.
I don't think you need two wires.
I suspected that, but since I had free 30m of CAT5, and also needed to close the ceilings / floors boards before finalizing the installation (this bit is not reversible), I ran it along with the phone extension cable, even if ultimately I need only the later. I also thought it could be usefull to have it ready just in case.
Thanks for that!
That is an extension socket with a built in filter, so all it does (AFAIK) is provide a filtered telephone socket for ADSL use. You need one wire to extend your line to each socket, but you'll only be using one modem I presume? So you need 3 normal phone sockets and one of the ADSL/phone sockets in the study.
I think I follow that.Yes there will be only one modem, however, I wanted to have the option (by using permanent wall mounted DSL filtered / phone sockets everywhere) of installing the modem anywhere I want, in case we want to swap study / bedroom at some point, or if there is no more study, but 2 bedrooms, to have the modem in the living room... Apart from having to buy more of these sockets (they are £15 each, I only need 2 as a spare one was also provided by BT at installation) is that possible?
You can't plug in more than 4 phones (I think that includes modems) as they will suck too much power, but if you have a phone in each + a modem you should be ok, I think. Google REN count / limit for more info.
Only one phone will be connected, at one of these 3 points. It is a small flat so we can get away with one main station with cordless unit and one satellite else where, radio connected to the first one, and that only need a power socket to its base. Without going for 4 phones, could we at least have another one (2 in total)
Thanks again for your answer!

I am wiring phone and internet at home, using both cat5 cable and phone cable together (30meters of the CAT5 came with the BT installation, as I did not want them to stapple cables onto architraves and skirting boards, I am doing the wiring myself, concealing the cables into the floor/joists between the ground and 1st floor)
Could someone knowing about this stuff confirm that I can use extension plugs like these:

With the following diagram:

At the moment I have a cat5 cable running randomly in the stair to the study where the BT modem / server are installed. But I want to be able to install it either in the other bedroom or living room in the long term, same for phones (wireless stations, one master, one slave)
Thanks for your expertise!

I was in Straton Cycles (Wandsworth) last week, buying a saddle post of a rare diameter (and it's where I found it after looking in many shops around), and they have one of their customer's brompton for sale, an immaculate red Brompton (not the one that has been stolen afer the tweed run just in case you are wondering...). They were supposed to give me a call to confirm the price but they did not so I just called them and it's £400 as it is, £450 with a front shopper bag and frame and £475 with new Schwable tyres.
It is a very old Brompton (maybe from 1991, by the look of the sturmey archer 3 speed hub at the back) but it had very little use and is in really amazing condition. It almost looks like one of the new bike they sell. M type (the straight bars did not exist I believe at the time) 3 speed as mentionned above, the shorter wheel base, as pre-2002 / 2003. Very traditional brompton colour, red with black forks and rear folding base.
A really beautiful thing, and vintage / NOS style... Brompton lovers should be tempted.
I don't follow prices on ebay really for bromptons, but I think that, if not a bargain it is a decent price, and some money (I don't know how much of the 400) is going to a charity. But call Straton for more details I don't want to badly repeat what they told me, in case I got is wrong.

still undecided, i would like to ride my guvnoresque fixed which has been a good friend recently and there is something else but it wont be ready and theres another that could be ready if that makes sense, but we'll see.
You only need one registration ticket to ride these 3 bikes at the same time, no?

I had an exchange of words with a white van this morning.
I was arriving to work, a woman was cycling ahead of me and that white van turned left into a builders merchant yard, just in front of her, she had her hands on the side of the van to protect herself, at a faster speed this could have been nasty. She shouts, they don't seem to hear her, they go park their van and she does not bother going after them and cycles of.
I am upset about what I just saw, I go to the van and start:
"BLABLABLA"
The driver goes:
"BLABLABLA-MIND-YOUR-OWN-BUISNESS"
Me:
"BLABLABLA-MY-BUISNESS-CYCLIST-GET KILLED" (I'm nervous and I don't make much sense, I remember mentionning millions of death, hehe, I'm no good with my speach in tense situations like these)
The Driver
"BLABLABLABLA-FUCK-OFF" and he goes at his buisness buying timber and god knows what.
His mate
"BLABLABLABLABLA-GO-BACK-TO-YOUR-OWN-COUNTRY-BLA-BLA-FUCK-OFF"So I fuck off then, I won't start a figh with 2 builders, I can't even express myself properly, I don't know how to figh, and it's not even my own country!
I go to work (just couple of streets away) feeling bad about this. The woman did not feel necessary to go to them, I went to them, sarted to argue, but no important message was said really, just disgracefull insults, at the end of the day, the cliche about white vans is stronger in me, and these guys hate cyclists and possibly foreigners even more now... FAIL.
I was an hour early at work this morning, so I have time. I leave my bag and bike at the office and go back to the builder's merchant.
I see the driver about to go back to his van, I go to him, and tells him that I am sorry about the way our little chat turned into a haters dialogue, that I understand that nothing constructive came out of this, and I strongly feel this is all very wrong: IT IS THE FIRST TIME IN 6 YEARS IN LONDON THAT I AM BEING TOLD TO GO BACK TO MY OWN COUNTRY.
He apologised straight away, I could see he was embarassed about the xenophobic words, it was not his words but his mate's and I could feel he does not necessarely approve (he had gone to the warehouse when his mate said that and probably did not hear). He said he was sorry he did not see the woman cycling (which of course is not an excuse, but you all know how rarely people recognize they made a mistake on the road - including cyclists). I think he was as unhappy as me things had gone this way: he offers to shake hands, he does not seem to hate me anymore, I don't hate him anymore, we could almost go to Vegas and get married!! WINI felt a lot better after...
Sorry if TLTR - Peace!
