Well, I don't get where the hate is coming from. Since becoming a parent I don't ride as far and the power on my phone is fine for both navigation and photos on sub 100km rides.

The case itself is mega sturdy and has prevented multiple cracked screens (I imagine). And it works on all our bikes and in the car... So I can't see what's not to love. Yes it is expensive and yes you have to pay extra to get black mounts. But it's still way cheaper than buying a nice cycling specific device+ good impact proof phone cage + something to hold the phone in the outdated Renault.

I was planning on doing a rack for it. And I would like them to attach to the top of the fork legs.

Definitely not flawless. Chainring bolts came lose today. One was overtightened and doesn't work anymore and the others require a tool to preventing them from creaking. Alway test bike before bringing them on vacation!

I did not want loose hardware but maybe that is a better idea for the reasons stated. In terms of retention we will see if that becomes an issue. A longer bolt and a nyloc could sort that as a quick fix but obviously if it need to become an actual product I need something bullit proof.
