anyone know if brompton hire locker things include electric bromptons? I think it's a good option for a friend's new commute but would like her to try it out a bit first.

More lock chat, decided to go with a Litelock X1, and an alarmed motorcycle disc lock in addition to what we've already got.

So setup will be:

Kryptonite faghedabout chain (which is a bit shorter now).
Abus frame lock for front wheel
Alarmed motorcycle disc lock for front or rear
Litelock X1 around rear wheel or stand if it fits
Abus Alarmbox

So in theory to ride off you have to make 4 cuts, 1 of which is the angle grinder resistant X1. Seems overkill but don't want to go through last week again.

I was hoping to find a motorcycle diamond chain, but they're all mega mega heavy (at least 15kg+), so it's not really workable.

Also thinking of sticking a few Airtags in the bike somewhere to compliment the powunity we've got already fitted.

good tips cheers. we've got the powunity tracker installed which is very good but thinking of an additional airtag. agreed on multiple smaller locks, going to get one of those Oxford alarmed disc locks.

not sure he said something about asking them if they were really stealing a bike with a baby seat on it. I think he caused enough of a fuss the other people got involved too

ye, but that's when is most likely to get nicked. so I meant for me I think I'd rather have battery in knowing that if it does get nicked it'll keep tracking for as long as possible

Tiny update:

Police have closed the case. No CCTV and drive round last night didn't find anything.

Police passed on my details to the hero passerby and I've been able to thank him properly and send him a gift voucher which I hope he spends on beers.

Producty things i thought about on the way home last night. No idea if they are already around

Lockable pedals. Sort of folding pedals like a brompton but which lock folded and make it impossible to pedal.
Some sort of locakable headset thing to make it impossible to steer.

Re battery.

Ours has a hiplock cafe lock around it as well as the lock. I'm in two minds about removing it. As removing it only gives the PowUnity GPS tracker ~14hours until it will die. With battery it will be 8 days.

Yep it's on the cards. Going to try it out in a shop though to see how practical the size of it is.

Maybe parked there an hour in total. Attempted theft was about ten mins before I came to it.

Lucky escape last night.

Parked outside guys hospital, right in front of the main entrance.

Came back to find no Benno, and two bits of broken chain on the ground.

Initially I had thought security had taken it as i'd parked in the wrong place or something. I checked the GPS tracker, bike was roughly where I had left it. Which meant one of two things, security had it, or the tracker was broken and it was stolen and long gone.

Went inside and found security, and my bike was in the office there with them. Then I found out the story.

At 6.50pm, right outside the main entrance to the hospital, 4 or 5 lads with an angle grinder went at the lock. It's a NY faghetabout. Sparks everywhere apparently and they got through it. As they were about to ride off, a passer by challenged them, got the bike back and took the bike into security.

I came out only a few minutes after that.

Super thankful to the passerby. He had then rang the police and to his and their credit they were driving around looking for the lads. I spoke to him briefly but forgot to take any details from him. Am going to try and get them from the police today to send him something.

Things I learnt:

• That's meant to be one of the toughest locks on the market. Angle grinders don't care.
  
• Frame locks are important. I hadn't put it on. Had I, they would've found their getaway more difficult. I might get a second frame lock for the rear wheel or two on the front now.
  
• 7pm outside the main entrance to a major hospital. These guys do not give a fuck.
  
• I've got an Abus Alarmbox on there. But considering they had sparks flying everywhere and that didn't put them off i'm not sure that really helps. I might get a louder motorcycle disc lock as that alarm box is pretty quiet.

I'm thinking of making a simple webapp over winter which would allow people to add suggestions to improvements to streets on a map. Is there anything like that that exists at the moment? perhaps @Oliver Schick knows?
