I have possibly foolishly offered to organise a long distance ride for a group of rowers and associates. They originally wanted to do the ride across britain next year but then realised it was full.
They have now decided to do the same route as RAB but off their own backs. Whilst they are a group of very fit athletes, they have little bicycle experience, hence asking for me to organise it. And whilst i ride a lot i have not ever organised anything on this scale for other people.
So i am looking for advice on things such as support, essential equipment, sponsorship etc. Basically all the logistical faffing required to setup the ride and making sure it runs smoothly. Training isn't going to be a problem as these are people prepared to go out row in the rain and snow at 6 am on a sunday morning.
Thanks!

I find ditto's attitude incredibly frustrating and oddly dangerous.
As part of my research I regularly attend diabetes clinics. In general we are treating type II diabetics of which a proportion of whom are significantly obese.Over the course of several years when the issue of their obesity is tackled the stock responses of genetic/metabolic disorders are used to excuse patients weight (usually followed by leptin gene/metabolism screening and a sad faced diabetic upon the realisation that it entirely their own fault that their feet are going to have to be amputated and they'll be blind in 6 months time.)
However more and more we are encountering patients who instead of burying their heads in the sand about their weight or lying to us about the amount they eat but rather adopting the ditto stance of being happy with their size even when it is killing them slowly and painfully. Excrutiatingly frustrating.
I wish everyones hang ups over body size could vanish we get rid of the stigma and take some responsibility for our own bodies and actually deal with the real issues associated with people's size which is their health rather than the vanity of it all:
Hey skinny britches! Cocaine isn't part of the four food groups and an apple a day won't keep the doctor away as he'll have to come round to fix your broken bones who osteoporosis starts to fuck you up
Hey fatty! You don't have a leptin mutation, it's not your gene's fault and not writting that mars bar in your food diary doesn't mean you didn't eat it.
also:
Gossip are a painfully bad band. Someone recently attempted to pay my bass playing a compliment by comparing it to that of the gossip's bassist. I nearly gave up playing music on the spot.

Its always the last thing you check. I spent ages fiddling with tension, checking the BB and chainline only to flip the wheel round and discover that its the bloody sprocket that was causing it!
Had to drop from 84GI to 72GI today which has been utterly exhausting. Lunch break mission to find a new 15t.
Remember kids, check your sprockets!

Right oh desperation is driving me to what will undoubtedly be a fruitless posting that will result in scorn being poured on but here goes:
Of late a grinding/vibration has developed in my cranks. This appears to only occur as the non drive side crank passes the chain stay. It is present at slow speed and to a lesser degree a high speed. Chain line is visually fine and the grind appears chain tension independent (it lessens marginally with a looser chain possibly but it is probably my imagination.) I've had the BB (miche track, with miche chain ring) out and given it a clean off and a re greasing prior to re-installing but without any joy.
I haven't tried a different sprocket but have tried a different wheel with no effect. I have UTFS'd, which only suggested chain tension issues which I don't think i am having. The bottom bracket as been in place and in use since early december 2008. Could this simply be a case of worn out BB in need of replacement?
thinking about this a bit more i do have a near obbessional drive to get my chain tensioned very tight. I never get it where i want it so there is a little give in it. I'm not sure if there is really a 1/2" travel in it so would it be likely that over tightening is causing the problem?
Thanks

My partner's sleep paralysis episodes are always populated with threats. Generally, conviction that someone has broken into the house but all the way up to great big evil fucking dogs sat on the bed/her chest and fully formed images of people in the room.
Her sleep or lack of is damaging her health i think but she refuses to try and sort it out, no doctors or internet research nothing. she's far to stubborn and its messing her up. frustrating. -

NASA have been tasked with getting man back to the moon by 2020 but are currently re-evaluating that pledge. I don't think they are capable of doing it. Their only launch vehicle capable of delivering live payloads to orbit is being decommissioned next year. At best the ares/constellation project would arrive five years after that. But the project is running behind schedule and the public just doesn't care about space exploration any more so the political will and hence money required isn't forth coming. Therefore no stars and stripes on the moon/mars in the time frame they originally suggested.
The Russians must be laughing at the moment having both the americans and europeans in their pockets by having the only operational crew launch vehicle. Don't reckon they will be on the moon anytime soon.
The Chinese however will be there bang on schedule whenever they say they will be there, and this might be enough to scare the americans back into orbit.Best recent space exploration feat:
cassini-huygens
or more specifically the descent video of huygens landing on titan.I am fairly obsessed with space exploration/science and recently got through to the last 700 applicant s in the last round of ESA astronaut selection. Was so gutted when i had to go back to the day job!
I saw moon last night after the time out review kindly informed me as to a significant part of the plot. I was pretty solid! The silent running (which i love) comparisons are fair. If i ever learn how to build bikes i am going to start of frame building business under the name "valley forge"

And yet every other cd case has been equally, flimsy, breakable, fragile, gimicky and awkward.
I am quite fond of this style of case especially in the style i'm looking for. I would ideally like to working on 12" vinyl here but that is not an option.
Shall we have a discussion of vinyl vs cd vs mp3
or
aluminium vs steel
or
helmet vs head
they are all equally redundant as cussing the humble jewel case.
sorry, looking for things on the net and not finding them makes me exceptionally grumpy
Thanks for the recommendations of svp (even if their site is as user friendly as a tumor) and bigpockets, whilst neither has cured this particular headache they have solved other problems -
Sorry i should have said.
I specifically need classical style cd cases. No dvd cases or black ([pre-empt]racist![/pre-empt])
Maplins online appears not to have anything suitable
I will try HMV in leeds but i need several hundred so cost maybe prohibitive if I am to go down that route!
Cheers for the input!
