What a great story
@Skülly we were discussing the merits for having Caribbean produce and cuisine on our door step(s) yesterday and how fortunate we are to live in a diverse city like London
Methinks we should have a Caribbean themed mash up ride, with Irish ☘️ Moss, Guinness Punch, because you know I have a sweet tooth. I want to know where the best fish cakes, fried sweet potato pakoras, jackfruit curry is in London. I already know where the best Oxtail and butter bean stew is 🤤 This ride will need a few tunes / speaker maybe @ian(conker) cargo bike
And a history tour of West Indian Food culture around London, need volunteers from the forum to bring collective knowledge and support local business on the ride.

Guiness/beer was always more expensive in the RoI, generally speaking, than in the UK
Probably because staff are better trained, know what they are doing and have better pay/conditions than in the UK.
Not sure if this is a myth, but when Croke Park was redeveloped in the 90s-00s, there was a catering brief, to deliver 80,000 pints of Guinness in 15mins especially at interval times. Imagine a continuous bar tap on every level, with a long line of plastic pint glasses and an battalion of bar staff. Probably the same at the Aviva for football and rugby matches.
At €9 a pint = €720,000

on 4 May 1971 aged just 36 years old, Shay passed away. His body rests in the quiet church yard at Kilmacanogue, Co. Wicklow
an annual cycling event known as Route de Chill Mhantain was established in 1958. became the Shay Elliott Memorial Race in the 1970s, in fact he won that race under its original title.
There is a memorial stone at the finish dedicated to Ireland’s first professional cyclist

It is really hard, I am sorry to hearing that.
I notice that tributes at homecomings are led by women generally. Revelations from partners, siblings even children. Rarely by the men, too lost for words, grief stricken perhaps.
knowing/coping with a debilitating disease, long term illness, cancer treatment, heart condition etc. maybe not knowing the full picture, also I suspect some men living in denial. All takes its toll.
I agree though, that stress is a major concern.
#sorry many edits, too emotional

The last couple of months have been really tough. for those we know, have known living in sniper’s alley aged between 47-60. By the way, this doesn’t just apply to black men, but a warning for all of us.
What really hits home are ignoring medical advice, unhealthy diets, lack of exercise, work and life stress, excessive drinking/smoking have in some part been a contributor. It is absolutely devastating especially when there is a lot of masking, pantomiming, bravado, machismo..
The homecomings have become too regular and too early. If you are reading and if any of this resonates, please please make sure you have a full MOT every year. Listen to your body, GP, family and close friends. And live your best life.
As one pastor said, maybe said many times at funeral services, keep your house in order, have a positive life plan, make sure you have contingencies. Get your shit together.
If your wife/partner/children/mates are nagging you, it’s probably because they are afraid they will lose you too soon, when you still have time do something about it.
much love
