Hi all, I'm thinking about attempting the Tourmalet with a friend in August this year. No set time limit to complete but I wanted to get any opinions on those who had done it before.
Mainly; how much gear did you take, how long did you do it in? I would say I'm reasonably fit (20 mile commute 5 days a week) but have a limited knowledge on the tour and the routes. Advice would be much appreciated.

Yes, i've been using them this autumn/winter. They are nice, if a little pricey. Padded in the right places, very light and comfy gloves (if a little short on the wrist) Worse thing is, they let the biting winds in on the tips of fingers, which is a bit of a flaw for "winter" gloves. Bonus is you can pretty much do anything with out taking them off every 5 minutes. I bought them cheap, they are a bit bobbled now, but i reckon i would buy another pair, especially if they were in the sale. They serve a purpose, but i use my Lobster mitts for very cold weather.
Nice one, if you added a silk/merino liner do you think they could cope with temps 0 - 5?

Right, finally purchased a jacket so I thought I would share, I got a Montane Krypton jacket.
I hope this is an adaquate compromise between effective wicking (as I run hot when cycling), some insulation on the colder days (it has a fleecey liner) and windstoppping when it's chapping. As an added bonus it is semi waterproof although this wasn't a priority for me.
Thoughts to come once I've worn it for a bit.

Hmmm, think I might come in here with my recommedation! I have a Condor Agio which is more on the sporty side of things but is, I think, capable of doing all the things listed (with a few caveats).
I have two sets of wheels: for touring/commuting I opt for Mavic Open Pro Cermamic (36H, slightly overbuilt but good for London roads). But for sportifs or races with mates to Brighton I use a set of Mavic Ksyrium Elites. My other 2p would be to get a good rack (Tubus ideally) and a equally nice set of panniers (Carradice) to sit on it.
The Agio does well with and without loads plus takes 25 tyres with guards. You might even be able to squeeze in some bigger tyres. Pic of my model here:

Hmmm, been tossing up between two jackets for ages now and wondered if anyone has some experiece with either.
Montane Halo Stretch Jacket

However, I'm a serious sweater so breathability is equally as important. I think I'm edging toward the Montane, advice would be welcome.

Lynskey almost there. Hope to pick it up from my mechanic man on Saturday. Not completely sure about the bars but will see how it goes. My brief was to make myself an unassuming commuter. Not sure if I've quite pulled it off but looking forward to finding out...
Wow, lovely, have been toying with a Ti frame myself. Can I ask how much were the customisations ie drilled brake bridge to actually take a brake and the cable guides on the top tube? In addition I find I take a 53 TT but the seat tube for this size is 46! Really small! How's the sizing on the frame?

For anyone remotely interested, I've been doing some more metallurgy investigatrix and it seems that drilling such soft alluminium bars is a bad idea. At some point they will fail - I think I was being too beligerant and didn't want to acknowledge this as I had already bought the Nittos.
If anyone is looking for an alternative bullhorn with zero degree drop , I've found the Profile Base / Stoker bar which is wider than the Nitto RB 018 at 40cm versus 38cm (other widths also available) and has internal routing for cables. Enough talking to myself now!

Right, I'm looking to drill some holes in my Nitto bullhorns for some internal cable routing as I find cable underneath tape too uncomfortable. I fully understand the risks.
I have a rough idea of where I want the holes but was hoping for some advice or assitance in actually doing the job. Can exchange tools/help for beer!
