An Apple Watch is a different thing to a watch, though. Yes it tells the time and you wear it on your wrist, but it's another little computer that needs charging and talks to your phone all the time. You also really need to wear it every day to get the benefits, which usually means not wearing another watch (I've tried double wristing and it's weird).
It's a fitness and sleep tracker primarily, IMO. You can also have it repeat the thousands of notifications you receive on your phone but that can all be turned off. The health stuff is the real point of it. If that's what the gift is, then a watch-watch won't be any good. If the gift is a personal accessory that is a nice thing to wear, that will last for many years and reminds you of the gifter, then a mechanical or quartz watch would be better IMO, but it really depends on how the giftee feels about watches. Mechanical watches can be annoying, they're less accurate than quartz (which is in turn less accurate than an Apple Watch) and need winding or wearing otherwise they stop running.
At £300 you might not get something that will definitely last a lifetime but a Seiko or something like that has a good chance of doing so. The Seiko 5 Sports range are in that £300 ballpark and come in a range of styles (diver, field watch, general sports watch). The SRPE55 is as close to a general purpose GADA (go anywhere, do anything) watch as they make.

Two very nice Seikos.
@anidel thoughts on the bracelet? Do you prefer it on a strap?

Cheers. I'm sure he could have brought it in at 1500 if he'd used a generic bracelet and hadn't wanted certain specs like the level of finishing he's gone for, the faceted hands, the domed sapphire, the COSC certification and the water resistance. The custom bracelet is a big, big cost but I think it's the main thing that will elevate it massively.

Rolex case (and hour markers with the dots and blocks swapped), Omega bezel etc. Almost a Tudor snowflake hour hand.
Can see what they're going for and it'll probably do well at the price but it's too derivative for me. The green one is better but I much prefer the Spirit Zulu Time GMT.

Generally, the higher up you go in the watch "hierarchy" the worse the warranty gets. AP only just went from 2 years to 5 years, same with Girard-Perregaux. Vacheron, Cartier and Breguet are all 2 years. Even Lange are still 2 years, unless you buy directly from one of their own boutiques, in which case it's 3 years.

Lange apparently don't honour their warranty if the watch has been put on a non-Lange strap. Maybe GO are imitating them… wouldn't be the first time, lol, sick burn etc
I assume it's because they think there's a risk of the watch falling off the wrist (and smashing to pieces) if the buckle or spring bars are poor quality.

Guys it's not selling, make a black one, quickly!!

Yeah, I bought one for my son to learn on. Did the same with the fretboard, lemon oil and then Monty’s Instrument Food and it totally transformed it. It was drier than the Sahara originally.
The P90s and pickguard really change the look, might look into something like that as I don’t care for the stock HBs (not that they’re bad for a guitar of that price). I haven’t lifted the pickguard yet to see what the wiring’s like…
The 2100 is one of my favourites, and I think they wear really well. Have you tried one of the smaller ones? The GMA-S2100 line? They look great but because of the angle of the strap coming from the case they really only work on smaller wrists (smaller than mine certainly).
