You're welcome! I consider it a public service to take my tools to any rickety, unsafe, and poorly maintained bicycles I see. Glad you got home okay...
In further news: managed to find and fit a replacement seatpost binder bolt after I snapped mine tonight. :-DAre you saying my bike is rickety, unsafe and poorly maintained!!!??
I wasn't aware you'd ridden it that much! ;)

Been locking my bike up just outside of Leister Sq for over 2 years now, and without wanting to jinx my luck, it's been fine so far.
Also know plenty of people who lock bikes in the Sq, theory being plenty of people around to 'hopefully' deter thieves.
Plenty of railings etc by the ticket office on the south side.
But as Chris said, lock it properly, I use a big fat Arbus chain and Kryptonite cable thru the wheels.err . . . just gonna check if it's still there ;)

When my Dad was racing, I saw a helmet save his life, or at least prevent him from being a vegtable for the rest of his life. His Specialized helmet was cracked thru, but his bonce was un touched.
I know they dont look cool, but my advice . . . get a lid that fits, wear it, and you'll be able to grow old disgracefully (as I hope we all intend to!) -
