My girl got me a coffee machine for my birthday... a delonghi icona. It was a bit of a surprise but boy am i happy with it.
That's what I have. I've not got a good coffee out of it yet*... I'd be interested to hear how you got on with the monmouth espresso blend.
*I'm being picky and also haven't used it in a few months, so hopefully I'm just remembering wrong.

Excellent idea...
Jerusalem Tavern - tiny, quite old looking...
+1 I really like the Jerusalem.
Also, how about the Bree Louise? It's not that quirky, but it does have a whole load of ales. http://www.thebreelouise.com/
I would like to do this ride.
Me too.
Is there a day/time yet?

I'm moving to London for work beginning at the start of October and I need to live somewhere!
Right now I haven't got too many fixed ideas so am open to any suggestions. But I would prefer a non-smoking house and somewhere close enough to commute to Farringdon/ Smithfield. I have more money to spend on rent than a student and less than a wealthy person... I would prefer to live somewhere with interesting people who share interests in cycling. I'm a structural engineer and will work with architects/ urban planners so anyone with interests in those fields might get along with me. And I like coffee, beer, cooking, music...
Anyone got anything? All suggestions appreciated, ta.
Edit: I'm not in town until 29th September.

can only speak to my experience
Yeah, of course, naturally- me too. But in my experience the quality of rented housing available in Edin shits all over what you can get in London, and is a fair amount cheaper. Combine that with the lack of travel costs (you can walk across the city in about 45 minutes and obviously cycle it in much less) and the fact that London was recently voted most expensive city in the world to dine out (can't remember the source for this so it might be wrong though...) and I would rather live here than in London. But- I personally have found wages to be higher in London than elsewhere, and the work is more exciting (in engineering). So the higher salary is justified by the increased living costs and the work can be more interesting which is just a bonus.
I have no idea outside of my industry though!

At your age I directly contacted an engineering firm with a speculative CV and covering letter and got a week's work experience with no problem. If you are keen and got the skills it will show through. I was offered Uni sponsorship thanks to this experience but I turned it down because I didn't want to stay in my home town after graduation. Obviously the job market has changed significantly in the last few years but firms are still taking on good students and good graduates, so get your research targeted and relevant and throw your CV out there. Good luck.

If you're going from London it is St Pancras-- Leicester with East Midlands Trains. You have to reserve your bike and the trains used to have only 2 spaces for bikes so reserve sooner rather than later, although that situation may have improved (hopefully!).
Not sure what to recommend riding-wise, others probably have some better ideas.

ha it happened once with a friend of mine they moved into an old student house found a really nice mixte, sorted it out had it for ages before a girl turned up at the door **asking if the bike she had left 8 months ago was still there and demanded it back. **
Gutted.this one was leaning against a wall with no seat and two flat tyres and a chain so rusty it wouldnt even turn, i figure I should be alright. + as a bonus it was covered in mould and moss which seems to have stopped the frame and forks rusting.
Well out of order. Shouldn't have given it back to her. Everyone makes mistakes, but 8 months! That's a lot of storage money, probably much more than the bike was worth.

IMHO, go where you have friends, if you must be a tourist. That way you can see some of the place in terms of everyday life and routine; it's that stuff that makes a city or region fun/ fulfilling to live in. I fucking hate tourism, the monuments, the photos, the memorablia, the uniformity of it all. Blergh.

I read this in ProCycling when it was published last summer. Really enjoyed it.
Surprised nobody has posted it already though, for example me.
