I shove a headphone in left ear if i'm going to listen to my ipod as i go along. Can still hear traffic, just give a background noise and keeps the abuse i get from a distance away quiet. Only do it when i got normal clothes on, got no where to put my ipod when i'm in full roadie kit. Could put it on a mount but the wires will be dangling around too much.
If i do want music when i'm in full roadie kit, i have this thing i got free from Nokia on my bars. Its a rubber mount that you strap your phone to. Phone is like its glued down and dont move, but when its windy or theres lot of traffic you cant hear the music. Can also talk on the phone and ride while its on speaker phone. But the band on the mount has broke so its fucked at the moment. -

Specilized Avator. Get your arse measured for it with one of them pad things and get the right size. Very comfy.
Or any Specilized Body Gemotry saddles will do.
I have been on the Specilized Avator for over 5 hours and it was still comfy at the end. Did have well padded shorts on. Been on it in normal shorts for about 60, wasnt as comfy at the end but if your only doing short rides its a nice saddle. -
I wipe my geared bikes chain down. Spin the pedals back a few times, wipe some more then while running the pedals back tip a load of finish line wet on. Run the pedals back more and then wipe off the access lube.
Finish Line Wet i think is good stuff. I have used it for a while and it runs my chain nice and quiet. Only takes a few mins' to lube up and clean aswell. -
Geared bike is kept in the 'summer house' which is more of a shed. Folder is in there foldered up in the courner. Frame is sitting in the dinning room on the floor with bubble wrap around it. Wont fit in the shed at the moment and would get damaged so its staying in the house for as long as possible.

My stem was stuck solid.
I tried:
Wacking it out with a hammer and steel rod
Twisting the forks and claping the stem(gave up and didnt want to damage the forks)
20ton lift yanking the stem
More hitting with a hammer
Strong penetrating fluid left for a couple of days
The one which worked was to put the stem in half, then half the halfs and clamping it in the vice. You might haveto cut in the stem slightly aswell. Only one which worked to get mine out. -
Have to be black if it needs to match the chain.
White temps me, and someone else who has seen the frame has said blue, but black might look good. I thought about putting on a lime green deep V on the back to match my club kit, but i'm going shiny shiny.
I've seen silver tape but it looks crap.
Black might look good, got some old black tape when i took it off the geared bike when it got tatty. Might seehow it looks, can swap the saddle off the geared aswell.
I'll get some more pictures later, legs abit tired at the moment, long ride this morning/afternoon. -

My frame is back. Ready to put the bars on, lost a bolt, the one ontop of the one with the bearing in at the top, is that needed?
Anyway the front wheel is shiny chrome, so is the rear, and the cranks and chain ring. So you get how the colours work. But what about the bar tape. Its the wrong colour of yellow to put yellow bar tape on.
What you reckon?

Thought about half taping them, but i'm hoping to do some long-ish rides on it. Still got to get a shiny seat post for it and the bolt for the seat clamp on the frame. Back wheel is also soon to be built and the other stuff put on.
Any ideas?

I change my chains at a point just before they wear out the cassette or chain rings. Missed it once and needed a new block on the back.
I clean my chains by wiping it down clean, spinning the pedals and wiping, spinning and wiping, then putting oil on. Leaving it, spinning the pedals back then wiping off the excess. My last chain lasted me just over a month:(
I did clean up my old chain by putting it in a Robinsons fruit bottle with white spirit and some water. I shook it up and left it over night. Shook it in the morning and took the chain out. Wiped it clean, with a clean rag, and hung it up to dry in the shed. The chain now has no oil on at all and it very clean.
I have a wodden stick with lines on. When the middle of the link is on one line, the other line is on the next link. When it gets so far the chain gets changed. -
SKS raceblades are OK. The no-name clones are rubbish, though.
Dont really agree. On my Giant i have Giants version of them. Which are cheaper then proper race blades, and are still good. A bitch to fit on the bike, but one you have the little screws in place i can fit mine back on when it rains in about 5mins.
Here and Here
Heres the Giant with them on(ok a geared bike). They arent bad, but when you go down roads with standing water on, it goes all down you leg and into your shoes. -

I stripped my frame with Nitromorse. You have to get it right, and if you leave it in out in a tub too long while you wait for it to start stripping, when you put on some more it dont work aswell as stuff from the tin thats had the top on.
I stripped the paint from a frame and forks in two days, and i didnt work all day on it.
Just got to take your time with it and use a paint stripper tool thingy with a sharp stanley knife blade in. -

I rang up a few shops today and a few have a System X hub that they can make fit. I'm guessing they are going to put some spacers in it?
Found another hib which comes with spacers, from SJS.
Which hub is better. The SJS one i like better because it is fixed/fixed so i can put a smaller cog on the other side for TTing.
Thanks for the help! -
Hello, i'm Joe and i live in Nottingham.
I have been given an old 531 frame buy a guy in the cycle club i'm in and i'm turning it to fix. The thing i need to ask is, with the 130mm space rear triangle, could i put in a slightly smaller hub, i'm having trouble finding a decent and not too expensive 130mm spaced hub. Some people have said i need to get it respaced to put a smaller hub in, another guy has said i could just put spacers in to fill the gap and bolt it as normal.
So what do you reckon?
Not sure what frame it is, it got re-painted and just had Negre put on it, paints been stripped off and is being painted by a mate. Going to be a nice shiny yellow. Thanks
Take it out of the big big combo, that rear mech is being pulled.
Nice bike though, i like the mudguards. Put some proper bar tape on it if your going to keep it.
