The skyward bars are a preferance as i like the concept of bull-bars but not so much the looks, by tilting my drop-bars back a bit, i'm sort of cheating em a bit.
The wheels are indeed, those 50 quid jobs off ebay. Shimano 500 somethingorother
As for the tyres, sadly I couldnt afford another bontranger for the front. I've just sold some stuff on ebay though so will get down to the blb as soon as poss to fit out the front.. good advice that, i hadnt considered the front/rear grip balance.

Hello.
I fancy finishing my crankset with some nice, solid, manly lookin dust caps. The Campag chaps do some fairly serious looking ones but they've got campagnolo written all over em and they cost many pounds. there appear to be some plastic black jobs kicking around claiming to be affiliated with Sugino but they just arent cutting my mustard.
Anyone know got a source ? a dust-cap pusher

I bought a 'singleator' due to having vertical rear drop-outs on my frame. I'd been feeling a bit short-changed though as my drivetrain was being 'polluted' by unnecessary hardware. I started to think about Sheldon's talk of magic gear combinations and googled til i found this. Still need to measure my chainstay to see what I can get away with (and could very well only be left with a choice of granny-lame or super ironman crank-king ratios) but hopefully something will come out of this that'll keep this cheesy smile on my face.

I'm gonna do the same route by bus just to check. I think the Milland bus goes on a Tuesday and the one I need after that goes on a Friday.
ha ha ! try it on a bmx too. i rode the isle of skye on a bmx, as a kid. point blank refused to give any quarter to my family i was riding with, all flexing their gears at me. cheats ! ;0)

My daily commute is Bow -> Knightsbridge. Up until about a week ago I commuted on a scooter but some horrible cunt stole it. It usually took about 30mins. It turns out it was a good excuse to build a singlespeed and commute on that instead. I'm well intruiged to see the difference will be when I unleash my new bike, monday. I have a feeling it wont be far off.

Yeah, i have the back brake mounted on the front currently as it has a shorter pin (ironically) and allowed for the recessed allen key driven cup thing to be fitted 'inside' the crown as Mister K has done. These are some old shitty Weinmann calipers tho which i took off this old piece of crap raleigh bike i had(and stacked). I'm having a real hard time getting any decent braking out of em so i thought if i'm in the market for some new brakes I'd check with these boards see if anyone knew of what i should be looking for to suit my frame.

Got a small issue with this singlespeed build i'm on at the moment. My experience isnt huge so this could well be a stupid question but from the distinct lack of similar posts (after hitting google with as many variations on this issue as i could think of), I thought i'd try you chaps.
I have an old Peugeot frame which is looking mighty tasty now its close to finished, sadly it has vertical dropouts so no 'fixed wheel' for me. I'm happy to coast though,.. i always saw coasting as the 'pay off' after those monster hills so i'd miss that.. anyway.. i'm digressing.
The crown of the forks is 40mm deep and so my old 'cup secured / allen key fastened' brakes dont fit, the centre pin is just too short.
Anyone else had similar issue ? Is there a decent brake made by anyone which fits this old style of fitting ?

I say definately build your own.
Almost finished building up this old peugeot-frame-based (Reynolds 531c steel) bike. Its the first time I've been there but used to ride BMX so I'm pretty used to modding bikes. Its not hard though right, compatability appears to be the main issue i've come up against, the rest is just choice. Also tools i guess.. there've been quite a few tools i've had to add to the box. Costs wise, there's a few parts that i've bought cheap but plan to replace in the next couple months with money I'll be saving from not riding my vespa (insurance, petrol etc).
Its great doing it yourself though as you dont have to rely on any bike shop or handy mate when shit goes wrong. Plus theres gotta be endless satisfaction in the knowledge that each part of your bike has been hand-picked by you :D


i have a backpack with this 'airflow' shit built in so you dont have all yer crap pressed-up against your back. its got tonnes of space, lots of pockets with hilarious names, cross straps, it compresses nicely when there's fuckall inside it and its very lightweight. Only real downer is it looks a bit toss.
In case youre interested, its made by some German badasses (Vaude) and its called a Triset 25+4
