As for the guy staying off the front for most of the race, either the chasing bunch were useless or he was sandbagging, riding in a grade below what he should be.
The chasing bunch were useless!! I had a chat to him afterwards - he was a student at Loughbourough Uni who rides with the university club. Said he got to go out three or four days a week. Nice kid.

Much better race today - probably 30 - 40 starters so plenty of space unlike the last time I went out. 3 went off of the front early which helped to keep the pace relatively high and made sure that the pack was stretched out. Of the three early leaders, two got swallowed up early on the last lap, while one stayed clear which was unbeleivable given the wind today.
I stayed towards the back as i'm recovering from a mother of a cold and didn't want to push too hard today. Kept with the pack and started pushing forwards with 5 laps to go. Stayed out of trouble and I'm guessing I finished 15th or so which was pleasing.
Next race for anyone who is interested is at 11.00am on Boxing Day for the Category 4s. I'm hoping to be there, though there is some negotiation to be done with wife and kids...

Single speed with rear brake. They were thinking of the children, less chance of them going over the bars. There is also something in the headset to stop barspins.
Check out the website.http://www.islabikes.co.uk/They have changed the set up on this. Previously it had a front brake and rear hub break operated through the pedals. The rear hub brake is great for small kids. The front brake was a bit of an issue as it didnt have the headset bit and as a result the cable has frequently been ripped out of the caliper when she bar spins (generally a result of chucking the bike down and picking it up again without looking...). This keeps dad's diy skills busy!
I am surprised that they have changed this set up as I am not sure 3/4 years old have the hand strength to stop themselves on anything resembling a gradient, particulalry if they only have a rear brake.

@ Willo - She's 4 and like her mother and father will never be the tallest. I would like her to enjoy cycling.
Hadn't seen this - my post was half in jest and half the excuse of a proud dad to re-post a piccie.
Lucinda has one of those Isla Bikes - she is 4 and quite tall and has just about out-grown it; we will be buying her the next model up for Xmas with gears. Ollie, pictured on the track also has an Isla. They are very good bikes for kids.

I ride with the Dynamos. Would say that they are more suited to the "racing" roadie than the "leisure" roadie. Kingston Wheelers are imo a much better bet if you are doing it to go on a decent Sunday club run in the Surrey Hills. Both meet near Hampton Court Bridge, so litte difference.
Many join the Dynamos for the Saturday RP lap-fest - essentially going round in groups of 8 learning to ride a quasi "team time trial formation". Gets a little boring after a bit in my opinion, but far more people turn up for this than the Sunday run.

No offence like, cause I'm sure its lovley and all, but that Colnago. It is basically just a small normal frame with a small front wheel and a little* extra seat tube extension above the toptube.

Its not really the same without bent or sloping tubes.
Wash your mouth out with good ol' Imperial Leather - NOW!!! It is the most exquisite looking bike.

Santa is bringing this. Grand parents have bought her stabilisers? Tossers.Best brand of kiddy bikes. Hopefully others will follow suit! The crapuscularity of most children's bikes beggars belief. If you want your child to cycle, you might as well buy them a proper bike. +1.
Get 'em a proper bike, ffs

Cheap lo-pro with disc rear and shamal look-a-like (may even be shamal front). Unfortunately too small for me.

Well, that was a hoot! Started probably 2/3 back out of 80 or so Cat 4s. 35 mins plus 5 laps. Very very crowded throughout, and lots of jokers putting the brakes on going into the corners causing havoc. Missed a big crash (narrowly) about half way through which took 4 riders down, but had to go like stink once I got round to catch up the pack. Pushed through to the top 10 up the hill with 5 laps to go. Momentarily led after the bell, and then got spat out over the last half lap, not helped by getting stuck behind someone who had been lapped and not being able to get round them - note to self: don't get on the inside on the last lap.
I'm guessing I finished about 30th.
Chuffed!
