Paul / Io, does it not make more sense to give the LPC loaner to someone, if they can keep it and use it on Tuesdays, rather than having it sitting up north on Mare Street unused?

maybe a chat in the LPC thread, and then we do whatever everyone wants...(there's one somewhere were i let people know this was a proposal put forward - and that does not mean things cannot change if you want that :-) )

I personally have no strong opinion... the only reasons why we arranged LMNH were:

• accessible for London Fields sessions to anyone who turns up (loaner was inactive last winter as was in someone's basement who stopped coming to sessions (the one that Fuschia later bought); and the other loaner was kept hostage by Angus.
  
• stored relatively safe and indoors (before a loaner was chained on a tree)
  
• when not in use it acts as an advert for polo as it is in the cafe (but obviously it is not just an advert-it should be used!)
  
  

if there is an individual who wants to use it / if you want it to be used differently then yeah, i personally have no opinion - it is not mine to make decision, i was just helping out with the arrangement as i know one of the guys there. Maybe discuss it on the LPC thread

check here on tuesday to see if the session is going ahead. if there are 6 people turning up then it's on.
don't worry about a mallet, there are some extras you can borrow for the session and you can always borrow someone else's bike for a few games.

I am actually sheltering from the rain at LMNH right now. Beth, got the wheel for you, replaced stone spokes and it is good to go. Need a wheel disc though as it is only 32 spokes.

Must say I found the conversation interesting, but also abit of a de-ja-vous. The way our lifestyle is makes up part of the machine – if you don’t own any Nike shoes maybe you own some Converse shoes (which are owned by Nike). You may not eat Cadbury’s and you go for the more ethical looking Green & Black’s which is owned by Cadbury’s anyway. What I am trying to say is that there is no escape, but at least when it comes to a group or collective it is good to think of these issues.

Regarding Nike and London Polo… I really do not think Nike can contribute to polo’s survival as a sport. Nike is interested in a cool looking promo. It may make it a fad for a few months. That won’t make the sport sustainable. In my opinion, these big corporations just want to use polo (more underground scenes) as a platform to promote themselves. Does the polo community want to be part of selling Nike goods, and contributing in an indirect way to Nike profits? I think whatever the money payback from Nike to polo, the answer should be no.

Keep polo away from being a platform of commercialism and profits of horrible unethical corporations. This won’t save the world but at least you know that the polo association is run without a link to that.

By the way, I am not saying that I personally have an ethical way of life . I do not. But this should not be a question about individuals. It is a question about how the Polo group is run and what links it makes. (likewise this should not be a question of would this save the world... these questions just divert the attention away from the simple question of how would you like the group to run and what sort of links would you like to create? Commercial? Corporate?)

by the way, we now have access to a loaner bike. it is stored just a few minutes from London Fields. I will add to it a loaner mallet tomorrow/later this week. If you need it this morning Paul/Beagle/Jo know where it is.
