what are peoples thoughts on scanning flatbed (Epson V5/6/700?) vs dedicated 35mm scanner? (Plustek 8100?) i've got a good shoe box full of negs i'd like to revisit...
Obv: flatbed i can scan multiple frames at at time. however Plustek does come with a copy of Silverfast.
I haven't ever scanned film so have no idea of the best work flow... I do however use Photoshop/Camera Raw and are pretty competent at scanning images

Neat!
I very much enjoyed having a bar bag for keeping stuff at hand: Food, wallet, phone, camera, arm&leg warmers, windstopper jacket, map, pen, paper, 0.5L drink. However, the RD framebag is also easily reached while riding. Otherwise a toptube bag behind the steerer tube may be a solution.Yeah may end up chucking a small handlebar bag on as there are a couple of things i realised i'd not accounted for like OS maps etc....

Yeah, but it's stock as with the (my) 2012 Crosscheck, hence my point about Surlys claim of just needing to add the inner ring and new BB.... i do know people who have used a double just fine, just seems like* this *double isn't the right sort
Can I make my Cross-check into a triple?Yes, but you'll need to buy some stuff. The crankset that comes stock on our complete bike will accommodate a 74mm bolt circle granny ring. You'll need a 74mm BCD chainring, some bolts and spacers for it, and a longer bottom bracket (think 118ish) . You can probably get this done for around $100 at a bike shop. The stock shifters and front derailleur will work fine with it

ok so even with 2.5mm of extra width on the driveside (123mm BB equiv) it still doesn't shift properly,
the pressed ramp on the derailleur which narrows it by 3mm and eases the chain across basically stops before it curves round to the same level as the chain when on the middle ring.
Looking at the difference between double and triple FDs the significant obvious difference is the length of this ramp....
Triple:
