If the police have different people calling them with evidence about one person's activity, they have to take some action. There’s a complaints procedure if it’s not completed to a satisfactory level.
If anyone has evidence about anyone nicking bikes, it should be reported. Even if nothing happens immediately, the long-term effect is that bike crime stats rise and it becomes a bigger issue, which demands more policing.
I’m not here to defend Carl. I don’t know for sure if he’s knicking stuff or not. I’m pointing out that there seems to be no evidence that he’s responsible for recent bike theft in hackney, and yet people keep bringing his name up on various threads and then saying he should be threatened or harmed and I think that’s wrong. Lets all stop baying for his blood unless he’s actually proven guilty of something.
The guy knows shitloads about bikes, and he loves building them up. Does anyone actually know for sure he was aware the parts he had on his bike were stolen? He buys and sells bits off his mates all the time. So do I. Maybe you do too. From Ebay? From a friend of a friend? Do you know they're defintetely not nicked, somewhere along the lines?
Yes, he's apparently admitted knicking bikes in the past. Apparently he also said he got caught by the police and doesn't do it now – so maybe the law of the land and police powers did work after all.
I’ve seen Carl kick off when he got angry at polo, threatening to fuck someone else up. He’s a pretty angry dude. I’m sure he won’t give a fuck about ‘a bit of fear and intimidation’; I bet he’s seen plenty of that in his life.

I’m looking to buy a cheap second hand frame around 53cm c-c seat tube, for use as a daily commuter so nothing too fancy required. Anything reasonable considered, as long as it’s lighter than my current ancient Falcon road frame. (to be honest, most things will be)
I’m currently checking ebay and Gumtree, but if you have something suitable squirreled away in a shed or under your bed, let me know.
Cheers.

It feels like there’s a mob mentality growing here, along with a hatred directed specifically towards Carl, who's name has been bandied about a few times in posts about bike theft in Dalston.
If someone has evidence he’s fencing stolen parts, it would be really useful if you could phone the police (hopefully you'll still have his phone number from the Gum tree ad which lead to recovering stolen parts? If not, Gum tree will have it and the police can retrieve it from them). If he’s as dodgy as suspected/assumed then he’ll likely have previous, and a knock at the door from the old bill will be the last thing he’ll want.
If there's no evidence he's still stealing bikes or buying stolen parts, lets not demonise him by assuming he’s the criminal mastermind behind all thefts in hackney.

Yeah Teddy, they take it pretty seriously there. I was stopped a couple of times in Berlin at properly set up temporary cycle check points. They gave my bike a good going over, checking brakes, lights, everything to make sure it was in working order. The main bit of grief I got was for not having a reflector, but also for sloppy brake set up!
The most positive thing i can say is that they're also checking if bikes are registered and reported stolen, so there's a good chance that some thief riding around on your bike is going to get stopped. Unfortuntately, so are you ...
p.s. I can't say it enough, look out for them tramlines. And PM me if you want any top tips of bars, etc. - i lived there for a year.

Not enough folk to play at 7pm tonight, so the football boys took over the court by the time we all arrived. We managed a few half-decent games at the basketball court in the estate across the road, but i think we need to be at the Upton/Downham Rd. early to claim the court in future.
p.s. Ali, good to meet you tonight. And Jo.

I'll be there.
I've PM'd Seb. I'm assuming he'll know but there's no post from him.
Seb, where art thou?
