Depressing article in the Financial Times today. Particularly this bit.
*The mayor says he wants to encourage cyclists, but adds: “If we are going to do so much more to encourage cycling then cyclists must understand that I will encourage whatever steps are necessary to crack down on aggressive cycling.”*
What kind of message is this?! Cyclists, be afraid, very afraid...

this thread needs to HTFU, untill I saw the title I had no idea motor bikes where not allowed in bus lanes, i just went around them. If some one was a dick to me i HTFUed and kept riding. I don't like Motor bikes blocking gaps, but go around when I can, and wait when i cant, its generaly not a huge deal, I have had close calls with motorbikes coming out of the ASL (with me infront of them) and passing on the side i was turing towards, but this would be the same if i was in the ASL and they where at the other line.
All the discussion on ASLs is they exist for cyclists but are used by motorised vehicles all the time. We all work around them and as Hippy says we position ourselves where it is the safest. Very good that you are a strong boy who can HTFU, why does it have to be the law of the bullies?

No one is disputing this. Just the fact that allowing motorbikes, mopeds in the bus lane will make it more difficult to cyclists.
Better for bikers but more difficult (but hopefully not more dangerous) for cyclists.
The danger perception comes from the media and the agression on the roads. Ask your colleagues what they think. I do not need to read what the LCC says to hear every day "YOU ARE SOOO BRAVE!"....

Like it or not a motorised vehicle that drives into the ASL when the light is amber or red = £60 fine and 3 points.
If cyclists were the only ones jumping red lights, there would be less crashes and injuries. It seems that the only things that define cyclists are: jump red lights, cycle on the pavement, dangerous activity.
Policies should focus on how to get people cycling. How many less cars on the road if people took their children to school, went shopping, went to work on a bike.
The majority of people are denied the "cycling opportunity" because the majority of people perceive cycling as a dangerous activity. They would like to, but are too scared. As an example, look at the small number of women cyclists.

I'm taking my mum to a talk and then for dinner tonight, plus she's meeting my gf for the first time.
I can't believe I just typed that ^ I'm really not doing myself any favours in not providing ammo for having been such a dirty stop-out for the last few weeks.
Have a belter kidz!
:D
Exciting! I hope they get along. Your gf is lovely.
