Another technical question...
Why does the 3rd -string G not stay in tune?
Just fitted some new strings on my accoustic spanish Vicente Tatay Tomas guitar and the G keeps droppingHaven't read the article linked to yet but would also add that if you tune the open g string to be exactly in tune in an open g chord, it'll often sound sharp when you fret it at the 1st for an open e chord. I suspect most of the mismatch is caused by the effect of fretting so near the nut pulling sharp as opposed to any inherent equal temperament/fretted instrument compromise but it's been noticeable to a greater or lesser degree on almost every guitar I've ever played. I usually tweak tuning depend on what key i'm in. Most of the time that means tuning the G a fraction flat. One of the three Gs in a G chord being slightly flat is much less noticeable than the single slightly sharp G sharp major third in the E.
that's my logic anyway.

Right. I'm overwhelmed by choice. I had no idea this whole area had already been "coffee appreciation"ed to death. Great.
Speaking of death, have we had the conversation about the lack of research into the long term effects of superheating nicotine and inhaling it as a vapour?
I'm leaning heavily towards the "It can't be worse than the well documented "it makes you die young and in agony" effects of smoking tobacco. But on the other hand...if I'm quitting for health reasons why would I invest developing a habit that might well be as bad or worse? Granted, it's only a slight chance but y'know.
Anyone got links to facts?

Thanks dooks, partial capo was the keyword it appears, I have ordered what I think is the right one.
Oh, sorry, I just saw this. I was trying to say that you can achive the partial effect with a full capo of the above types. You just clamp it on a little bit off centre so it misses the low E then you don't need to carry a whole 'nother capo. never mind though, the thing you're ordered will do the job.

Might run this one past my Italian in-laws for amusement value :-)
All actually sounds delish tho.Yeah I'm sure it's entirely illegal. Just adds an extra layer of gooey deliciouslness though. You just chuck it in at the end so you get these cooler blobs of stringy creaminess in amongst the hot fragrant surroundings.

Had a few friends over yesterday and knocked up a co-incidently meat free fest. A huge pot of (home grown thank you very much) broad bean and asparagus risotto with an obscene amount of parmesan and mozarella in. It was fantasically gooey. Had that with a pretty spicy sweet potato salad my lady wife knocked up and a watermellon salad with (also home grown) green beans, pine nuts and feta. Was absolutely delicious. No pics because I was too busy eating it.

Dunlop trigger or... the other kind of trigger ones. forget the name. I bought on ethe other day. Kahler? Basically anything with a spring.
Good trick that. Capo 4th fret but leave the bottom E open and a C shape gives you a nice different voicing of E. The cool thing is that unlike tuning down the E string to acheive the same effect (as Dylan does on Just like a Woman for example, tunes low E down to C then capos at the 4th) you can use your normal chord shapes above the capo.
Win.

Man, I spend hours yesterday trying to retrieve a blank dvd from the optical drive of my imac. Tried every fix i could find on teh netz but none worked as the drive wasn't registering the disc and just kept spooling up, clunking horribly then starting again. Ended up with a cake-slice coated in sticky tape jammed in the slot rapidly losing patience and in danger of frying the machine and myself.
Eventually leaving it for a few hours and re-booting in single user mode (for about the tenth time) spat it out. Can't really blame the machine as when it did eventually reappear it turns out that the disc I'd been trying to burn, being the last one in the stack, had got a blank circle of clear plastic stuck to it. I don't noticed and had jammed both into the drive.

Can anyone remind me how to get a file I've imported onto my itunes library to synch to the cloud and then to my tethered iphone? I've done it before but I also recall being stumped by this before... something about... nope. I can't remember how to do it. *googles
