Yes Ed, I know about obsolescece thanks. I'm well aware that Apple notoriously withdraws support and upgrades for superseded operating systems and software causing compatability issues and forcing upgrades.
That's whole different kettle of fish from what was being alluded to, which is actively negatively affecting the performance of an existing piece of hardware or software in order to make the new version more desirable.
The point being, withdrawing support and upgrades for an hitherto fully functioning set up should not cause it to immediately start performing poorly. Which is what annecdotal evidence appeared to be pointing to upthread.

Interesting that so many other posters are reporting recent iphone 4 perfomance just as the 5S is due to arrive.
Not normally one for the conspiracy theories but my 4 has behaved impeccably for two years and suddenly started misbehaving and hanging and hanging and hanging in the last month or so... which prompted me to check out what's available for my overdue upgrade. And oh look!
Hmmmm.

Loving the ongoing commitment to the crotch "blown out" for "rotted though from constant exposure to my rancid ball sweat" euph in this thread.
I've really fsked the look two of the three pairs of 101B's i bought a couple of months ago by going for a smaller than optimal initial turn-up. Didn't account for waist stretch, causing them to ride lower and subsequent requirement for a moar rockabilly sized turn-up. Problem is that when you do that the evidence of your earlier more conservative turn-up error is etched there in the denim for all to see and judge.
It's pretty tragic.

Well that was fun. My first Olympic and I actually enjoyed it, despite shitty weather, one of buddies dropping out through illness this morning and the other pulling up after one lap of the run. Makes me wish I hadn't bothered waiting an age for him in both transitions now. Hey ho. I got round! *retires

^ It's pretty bad. Bear in mind it's the same company whose first big ad campaign invited us to empathise with a revolting bigamist, smugly buying a dodgy second hand car for his secret mistress.
In spelling related news, I always used to change the chorus of the excellent Pet Shop Boys song "Shopping" to "We're s-p-e-l-l-i-n-g, we're spelling"
Because I am hilarious.

I don't bother with tumble turns in public sessions. Unless it's really empty and I feel like practicing. I still totally cock it up about once in every twenty attempts and either shoot off into another lane or lose my bearings halfway round and do a load of frantic underwater arm waving. Top tip for tumble turns: wear a nose-clip.

Brockwell Lido was perfect tonight. Cool water, late summer sun, plenty of space. Lovely swim. They even let me in free apparently on a whim. Could easily have kept going a while longer than the 2000m I did. Can feel the pull of regular training calling me back. When it's good like today I do miss it. I just don't think I'm cut out for structured club training. I like to set my own pace and push against it. Wonder how long unheated Brockers will appear as Autumn encroaches...

Joanna Newsom "On A Good Day" on repeat1 yesterday and today.
Finally moved passed disc 1 of Have One On Me, only to get stuck on disc 2, track 1.
Haha I consider myself a bit of a fanboy (wept involunatrily at the RFH Ys gig) but still haven't made it to disc 3 of Have One on Me Yet. The Shame.
In other news the almighty Neko Case has a new album out today. The bits I've heard so far are incredible. I fucking LOVE Neko.
