Best night's entertainment for a long time.
Genuinely staggered at the speeds that so many of the riders achieved and tickled that I got to have a go. Thanks to all at Rollapaluza for organizing it so well- and to the guy who held the forks whilst I achieved the dizzying speed of 59km/h...
...Zero preparation, wrong clothing, slipping out the straps; disinclination to break into a sweat... and other excuses. 'Strollapaluza' that's where I'm at.
-
Thanks for the pictures, everyone, especially WAID for catching Hillbilly emerging sea-monster like; Max- great video of the joyful downhill swoop into Hove, en masse. (Nick Drake soundtrack to boot! +thanks for the definitive and accurate route sheet).
@ Skully- the facial redness is just in juxtaposition to your dayglo 'ban radioactivity' jersey. Subdued hues that flatter the skin tone better. Won't stop the heart attack, but you'll be a prettier corpse!
@ Lebowski the staggered start clearly worked. Should use again on well attended rides.
BTW did anyone from the first group notice I led the WRONG WAY for the first mile?
-
If it's as good as Brighton run, will be epic.
Skully you've still got plenty of time to change that back sprocket ! -:)

... btw are you talking about magic brownies?!
I promise you won't need psychoactive snacks for Brighton seafront! Rainbow-coloured shockwigs; pumping sound-systems; bright-eyed party people befriending absolute strangers ...You'll be out of it just by being in it.
No, we're much better off sticking with the Dyke.

[quote=Lebowski;246088]
... do you reckon any group is going to overtake/get overtaken? The fast group have the advantage of a smaller group, but 45 mins is a big gap and it's only 60 miles...[quote]I'd think there's probably a good chance that the fasties will be bearing down on the early starters by Turners Hill, where I stopped yesterday to answer a text msg, arrange my clothing, talk to the locals, kick my tyres and do a spot of birdwatching, as displacement activity from getting up that hill.
There again Geoffrey Butler Cycles on the Brighton Road will be open by the time the fasties woosh by. Maybe they'll stop to ogle Colnagos,
Hare and tortoise.

Well guys, I did a reccy for this today. The weather was beautiful, the route is great. and Devils Dyke has views over all of the Weald, Brighton and the sea... Oh and there's a pub exactly where you'd want to find one. There's also a gravelly steep downhill, before the m25 which raised memories of Grasy Slag's Oxford Hill of Doom.
Big thanks to m-xl and Lebowski for route sheets.
So I can navigate the 'medium group'. and I'm taking a towel to bagsy beach space before all the late sarters get there!
-
Couldn't have been much better really, could it? clear skies, tailwind, good road surfaces, hardly any other road users after the first three hours.
@ Roberto - of the three fixed riders who got there by 5.00am two were from the forum: Australian Will (fourm name Texas) and Australian Gavin: Nice meeting you guys; announce youself here and claim your accolades.
The coach back was all very convenient and that, but next time I'm going to aim to do what Roberto and Hippy did: get to Ipswich, or maybe even further.
I truly can't believe I got there in the time I did compared to last year's sapping slog in freezing rain. But what truly made it an epic was all the japes with you lot at the beach (once you finally turned up!). Ta again, guys.

Thanks folks, for a great ride: just out of the shower now, with the sunburn and chafing abating a little. The ride showed the brilliance of the forum: camaderie as we sped and slowed then communal beers ....and all of Cambridge had turned out to welcome us!
Lebowski and Cornelious: hope the wounds aren't too painful. Thanks to you both for directing the group.
Special recogition for the guy (Dave?) who travelled to London from Hull to ride out with us, and the two Brighton guys- hope to get Preston Park to spin that track sometime.
As Pilky said, too many names to mention- see you on next week's night ride.
A hipster trucked up to the track
On a pengyful new Uni-Pak
He gave it a punt
It broke. WHAT A CUNT
