Well I really enjoyed the ride last night. Pleased to have met some of you I hadn't met before and chuffed that I caught up with some of the old school crew who I've seen too little of late.
I was a tad disappointed that I hadn't got the ride to Hyde Park a few minutes earlier to see this:
And for the same time reasons I dropped an entire loop into Knightsbridge!
A Memorable sight was the arches of blue light in South Audley Street where (artificial) snow drifted over us (pumped from the nightspot's window); tired and emotional santas; the convocation of stretch limos in Lincoln's Inn Fields and hearing ' Little Donkey' delight the residents of Bayswater. And special thanks to Katy for baking, bringing and distributing her home-made mince pies !
Dimi: hope to hear good news following your scan.

Obsessed as I am with street names and signs, I realize that on this ride
we're guaranteed at least a three-stars; a visitation by Three Kings; and the first (and last) Noel. We'll go through a hole in a wall and see Santa hang by a rope.
Just had Christmas lunch in the work canteen. by rights I should have a sherry now.

I hurt my back a couple of days ago and could only ride with difficulty today, but I fully intend to do the whole ride.
Who can bring a Garmin with them? As a safeguard against me spasming to a standstill I've uploaded the route to a GPS mapping site: it would be really good if several of you could take the trouble to download the route and bring it tomorrow. I don't have a Garmin so won't be in a position to 'Bluetooth ' the file to your device. but post here, or PM me and I'll PM you the link.

Best. Ride. Eva...
.... I assume the world's slippiest decking will be making an appearance? We'll give that feckin' decking a wide berth, even though it's at the superbly named Twinkle Park. How many of us stacked simultaneously? Was it four, with the loss of ratchet fastenings from two rider's shoes! So no mossy wet decking this time.

^ This...!
Oh go on, then! The jungle drums are right: I did a first reccy t'other night.
New thread here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread97191.html#post3258733 Sat 15th Dec. 7.00pm @ Look Mum
As I'm still a sucker for trawling round London gawping at night-sights I'd be delighted for any of you folks to help legitimize this odd social behaviour by joining in.
And if last year's ride was awesome, then...
I'll steal the xmas decorations from my office to decorate my bike especially for this.
...that would be awsome and then some!

Back by popular demand ! These notes updated 12th Dec, see below
last year's here: http://www.lfgss.com/thread76915.html
A seasonal chance to feel the tingle and view the sparkle as London Town troops out as Tinseltown. Christmas lights will be burning their brightest for this warm and fuzzy-inside night ride. Marvel at the decadence of public display designed to get you spending in the shops, but pay no more than a nod to the Spirit of Christmas Present! Say 'bah humbug' to those who say 'bah humbug' to larking around the Bugbug routes and track-stand in awe as Tron Square flares up some of the last North Sea oil for our visual entertainment.
So a ride to take in London's night-sights.
when: Saturday 15th December 7.00pm start. main part done by 10.30pm.
where: Look Mum No Hands. http://www.lookmumnohands.com/
scope and duration: about 15 miles,
in two discrete sectionsabout 4 hours, about two pubsWill post up more when I've reccied more.
**UPDATE: **I've done the reccies- There are lot's of engaging Crimbo lights out there- but some are just too much of a schlep for a large group and many fall dark from 9.30 so I've routed to stay central, wiggling from East to West trying to keep a high 'hit-rate' and stay within the time frame. For the same reason I've scratched a pub stop but have arranged a sit-down venue for food, booze and warmth once we're West. This way there's a choice to do the final leg to central with some planned sights, or to take your own, more direct, route home.
Two loo-stops before the food/drink stop, (it's cold, after all!).
Major roads kept to a minimum, but can't avoid some: /it'sabikeridenotaballoonflight.
Social ride, nothing pacy, There are a couple of short walk-only sections, but I'd like to keep moving. /shootingthebreezeoveraSlimlinePanatella>>>>>>>>
now for the discalimers:
Bring all the kit you'll need to keep warm, hydrated, fuelled and repairable in expectation of five hours in the cold night. Selfridges loyalty-card for that impulse purchase? I think not. On the plus side, if you have a mechanical you won't have to book into a local hotel: it's feasible to get home.
Fixed or geared? Doesn't matter but there'll be kerbs, cobbles and occasional tight turns. I'm.happier fixed on this territory,
Central London, Saturday night, Christmas reveleries, sozzled pedestrians, impatient taxis, bugging Bug-Bugs, unpredictable cyclists gawping at illuminations. Just saying :-)
Looking forward. J

Oddly enough we pre-tagged the Peter The Great Memorial ( the tag before last) This was inadvertant and due to the disappointing behaviour of my new phone which despite being subject to frequent fiddling attention from me only displayed Dammit's Thames Barrier photo. Connectivity failed before the Peter The Great image could appear. This bizarre coincidence became apparent at the point of uploading both tags, so we went on to tag the tesselated building.
Peter the Great's throne reminded me of Wiggo's olypmic time-trial pic.

Did anyone notice that as well as Noel Street we also went along Snow Hill EC1, Star Street W2 and Three Kings Yard W1?
